Sh'mot 10:12-20 Then the L-RD said to Moshe, "Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Egypt, and eat every plant of the land, even all that the hail has left." So Moshe stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and the L-RD directed an east wind on the land all that day and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. And the locusts came up over all the land of Egypt and settled in all the territory of Egypt; they were very numerous. There had never been so many locusts, nor would there be so many again. For they covered the surface of the whole land, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every plant of the land and all the fruit of the trees that the hail had left. Thus nothing green was left on tree or plant of the field through all the land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh hurriedly called for Moshe and Aaron, and he said, "I have sinned against the L-RD your G-d and against you. Now therefore, please forgive my sin only this once, and make supplication to the L-RD your G-d, that He would only remove this death from me." And he went out from Pharaoh and made supplication to the L-RD. So the L-RD shifted the wind to a very strong west wind which took up the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea; not one locust was left in all the territory of Egypt. But the L-RD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the sons of Israel go.
The 8th plague, the plague of locusts, was an attack on Anubis, the Egyptian god of the fields. Also, it showed that Isis, who was the protector against Locusts and the Egyptian goddess of life, was powerless against the G-d of Israel.
The east wind brought the locusts and the west wind drove them back into the sea. The locusts left nothing green. Egypt was destroyed.
The corresponding letter to this chapter is Yod- a metaphysical and Divine letter meaning the hand - the right hand of G-d.
G-d uses Moshe to bring judgment on Egypt. HaShem will use the Messiah, His right hand, to bring judgment on the earth in the future. Judgment will come from G-d through Yeshua HaMashiach in the same manner. He is the one who is worthy to open the seals of judgment.
Revelation 5:2-3; 9-10 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, "Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?" And no one in heaven, or on the earth, or under the earth, was able to open the book, or to look into it. ... And they sang a new song, saying: "You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to G-d by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us kings and priests to our G-d; and we shall reign on the earth."
Revelation 6:1 And I saw when the Lamb broke one of the seven seals, ...
Yeshua, the Lamb, will continue to bring judgment to the whole earth. One of these judgments is a plague of very strange looking locusts. This kind of locust will not destroy plant life but will be permitted torment those who have not received the seal of G-d on their foreheads.
Revelation 9:1-11 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star from heaven which had fallen to the earth; and the key of the bottomless pit was given to him. And he opened the bottomless pit; and smoke went up out of the pit, like the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by the smoke of the pit. And out of the smoke came forth locusts upon the earth; and power was given them, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And they were told that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of G-d on their foreheads. And they were not permitted to kill anyone, but to torment for five months; and their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a man. And in those days men will seek death and will not find it; and they will long to die and death flees from them. And the appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for battle; and on their heads, as it were, crowns like gold, and their faces were like the faces of men. And they had hair like the hair of women, and their teeth were like the teeth of lions. And they had breastplates like breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots, of many horses rushing to battle. And they have tails like scorpions, and stings; and in their tails is their power to hurt men for five months. They have as king over them, the angel of the abyss; his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in the Greek he has the name Apollyon. NAS
Jude 1:5-7 Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the L-rd, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day. NAS
We continue to see how Yeshua's second coming would be like Moshe. However, now we know HaShem wanted the actions many of those who are in the Tanakh to point to His begotten Son. ('ani hayyom yelidtika ;Ps. 2:7) Don't we?
May you be like Him! May our lives point to the only begotten Son! May our walk be of a design that illustrates Yeshua HaMashiach! May He also use us to illustrate His power and to reveal His truth. In Yeshua's name. Amen.
Sh'mot 10:21-29 Then the L-RD said to Moshe, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even a darkness which may be felt." So Moshe stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days. They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings. Then Pharaoh called to Moshe, and said, "Go, serve the L-RD; only let your flocks and your herds be detained. Even your little ones may go with you." But Moshe said, "You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice them to the L-RD our G-d. Therefore, our livestock, too, will go with us; not a hoof will be left behind, for we shall take some of them to serve the L-RD our G-d. And until we arrive there, we ourselves do not know with what we shall serve the L-RD." But the L-RD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he was not willing to let them go. Then Pharaoh said to him, "Get away from me! Beware, do not see my face again, for in the day you see my face you shall die!" And Moshe said, "You are right; I shall never see your face again!" NAS
The 9th plague was the plague of darkness. This was an attack on Ra the Egyptian sun god. Ra was believed to be the father of all the pharaohs. The Egyptian sun god was no match for the G-d of Israel.
During this time of darkness the Israelites had light. Perhaps this light was G-d Himself. We really don't know for sure.
Sh'mot 13:21-22 And the L-RD was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. (NAS)
During the tribulation the 5th bowl judgment is darkness.
Revelation 16:10-11 And the fifth angel poured out his bowl upon the throne of the beast; and his kingdom became darkened; and they gnawed their tongues because of pain, and they blasphemed the G-d of heaven because of their pains and their sores; and they did not repent of their deeds.
After all that was said and done, He still has the guile to threaten the life of Moshe. In so doing he again brings greater judgment upon himself-for he would be the one who die soon.
