Sh'mot (Exodus) Chapter 26

We will once again be pointing to our study on the tabernacle. Please take the time to review those pages on our website.

Remember that "the tabernacle" is a portable tent. In the last chapter we looked at 3 pieces of furniture that where found in the tabernacle. Now we are going to look at the construction of the tabernacle (tent) itself.

The word "tabernacle" means, "to dwell", during the Tanakh period of time G-d dwelt with His people in the Tabernacle.

Sh'mot (Exodus) 25:8 And let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them.

During the B'rit Hadashah (New Testament) time period, G-d "tabernacled" among His people in human form.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Today Ruach HaKodesh indwells the believer.

1 Corinthians 3:16-17 Do you not know that you are a temple of G-d, and that the Spirit of G-d dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of G-d, G-d will destroy him, for the temple of G-d is holy, and that is what you are. (NAS)

In the future, Yeshua will reign from His throne in Yerushalayim.

Revelation 21:3-4 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of G-d is among men, and He shall dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and G-d Himself shall be among them, and He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there shall no longer be any death; there shall no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away. " (NAS)

Sh'mot 26:1-6 "Moreover you shall make the tabernacle with ten curtains of fine twisted linen and blue and purple and scarlet material; you shall make them with k'ruvim (cherubim), the work of a skillful workman. The length of each curtain shall be twenty-eight cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; all the curtains shall have the same measurements. Five curtains shall be joined to one another; and the other five curtains shall be joined to one another. And you shall make loops of blue on the edge of the outermost curtain in the first set, and likewise you shall make them on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the second set. You shall make fifty loops in the one curtain, and you shall make fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is in the second set; the loops shall be opposite each other. And you shall make fifty clasps of gold, and join the curtains to one another with the clasps, that the tabernacle may be a unit.

Sh'mot 26:7-14 "Then you shall make curtains of goats' hair for a tent over the tabernacle; you shall make eleven curtains in all. The length of each curtain shall be thirty cubits, and the width of each curtain four cubits; the eleven curtains shall have the same measurements. And you shall join five curtains by themselves, and the other six curtains by themselves, and you shall double over the sixth curtain at the front of the tent. And you shall make fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the first set, and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain that is outermost in the second set. And you shall make fifty clasps of bronze, and you shall put the clasps into the loops and join the tent together, that it may be a unit. And the overlapping part that is left over in the curtains of the tent, the half curtain that is left over, shall lap over the back of the tabernacle. And the cubit on one side and the cubit on the other, of what is left over in the length of the curtains of the tent, shall lap over the sides of the tabernacle on one side and on the other, to cover it. And you shall make a covering for the tent of rams' skins dyed red, and a covering of porpoise skins above.

Curtains of goats' hair - Goat's were used in connection with the sin offering.

Vayikra (Leviticus) 9:3-5 Then to the sons of Israel you shall speak, saying, 'Take a male goat for a sin offering, and a calf and a lamb, both one year old, without defect, for a burnt offering, and an ox and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before the L-RD, and a grain offering mixed with oil; for today the L-RD shall appear to you.' " So they took what Moshe had commanded to the front of the tent of meeting, and the whole congregation came near and stood before the L-RD.

Rams' skins dyed red - A reminder of the blood sacrifice needed for forgiveness of sins.

Vayikra (Leviticus) 8:22-24 and he brought the second ram, the ram of consecration. Then Aharon and his sons laid their hands on the head of the ram, and Moshe killed it. Also he took some of its blood and put it on the tip of Aharon's right ear, on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot. Then he brought Aharon's sons. And Moshe put some of the blood on the tips of their right ears, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. And Moshe sprinkled the blood all around on the altar. (NKJV)

The blood of the ram applied to the right ear, right thumb, and right foot symbolizes our lives are to be consecrated and set apart in service to G-d.
