Yechezk'el (Ezekiel) Chapter 13

Yechezk'el 13:1-3 Then the word of the L-RD came to me saying, "Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy from their own inspiration, 'Listen to the word of the L-RD! 'Thus says the L-rd G-D, "Woe to the foolish prophets who are following their own spirit and have seen nothing.

Once again Yechezk'el is careful to stress that the message is not from himself but from the L-rd. This time he condemns the false prophets. They are not following G-d or receiving any messages from Him but they are claiming to be hearing from HaShem.

Many claim to speak for HaShem through selfish ambition or to get glory and attention from others.

The corresponding letter to this chapter is Mem- revelation

Yechezk'el 13:4-7 "O Israel, your prophets have been like foxes among ruins. "You have not gone up into the breaches, nor did you build the wall around the house of Israel to stand in the battle on the day of the L-RD. "They see falsehood and lying divination who are saying, 'The L-RD declares,' when the L-RD has not sent them; yet they hope for the fulfillment of their word. "Did you not see a false vision and speak a lying divination when you said, 'The L-RD declares,' but it is not I who have spoken?"' "

Like foxes among ruins - The false prophets were causing trouble, like a mischievous fox. Instead of building up Israel and helping them turn to G-d they are working to keep them from G-d.

Shir-HaShirim (Song of Songs) 2:15 "Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that are ruining the vineyards, While our vineyards are in blossom."

The wall that is mentioned here is a not a physical wall. G-d is saying that these prophets have not build a spiritual wall around the people to help protect them from the spiritual and physical attacks that will come against them.

Yechezk'el 13:8-9 Therefore, thus says the L-rd G-D, "Because you have spoken falsehood and seen a lie, therefore look, I am against you," declares the L-rd G-D. "So My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and utter lying divinations. They will have no place in the council of My people, nor will they be written down in the register of the house of Israel, nor will they enter the land of Israel, that you may know that I am the L-rd G-D.

There are always consequences to our actions. In this case the false prophets will:

  1. Be removed from their office of counselor over the children of Israel.
  2. Not written down in the registry of the nation of Israel. In other words, they will loose their citizenship.
  3. Not allowed to return to Israel.

Ezra 2:62 These searched among their ancestral registration, but they could not be located; therefore they were considered unclean and excluded from the priesthood.
