Yechezk'el (Ezekiel) Chapter 16

In this chapter Adonai compares Israel's relationship with Him to an unfaithful wife who plays the harlot. This chapter is quite graphic in its analogy and some of the ancient rabbis did not allow it to be read in public.

Yechezk'el 16:1-3 Then the word of the L-RD came to me saying, "Son of man, make known to Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) her abominations, and say,' Thus says the L-rd G-D (Adonai Elohim) to Yerushalayim, "Your origin and your birth are from the land of the Canaanite, your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.

Residents of Canaan were present when Avraham migrated to the area.

Yechezk'el 16:4-5 "As for your birth, on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, nor were you washed with water for cleansing; you were not rubbed with salt or even wrapped in cloths. "No eye looked with pity on you to do any of these things for you, to have compassion on you. Rather you were thrown out into the open field, for you were abhorred on the day you were born.

The L-rd had compassion when no one else did.

Yechezk'el 16:6-8 "When I passed by you and saw you squirming in your blood, I said to you while you were in your blood, 'Live!' I said to you while you were in your blood, 'Live!' "I made you numerous like plants of the field. Then you grew up, became tall, and reached the age for fine ornaments; your breasts were formed and your hair had grown. Yet you were naked and bare." `Later I passed by, and when I looked at you and saw that you were old enough for love, I spread the corner of my garment over you and covered your nakedness. I gave you my solemn oath and entered into a covenant with you, declares the Sovereign L-RD, and you became mine.

Israel is the apple of His eye.

I spread the corner of my garment over you - this was a custom of espousal. We see an example of this is the story of Rut and Boaz.

Ruth 3:8-9 In the middle of the night something startled the man, and he turned and discovered a woman lying at his feet. "Who are you?" he asked. "I am your servant Ruth," she said. "Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a kinsman-redeemer."

HaShem entered into a covenant nation with Israel at Mt Sinai.

Sh'mot (Exodus) 19:5-8 'Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel. " So Moses came and called the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the L-RD had commanded him. And all the people answered together and said, "All that the L-RD has spoken we will do!" And Moses brought back the words of the people to the L-RD.

Yechezk'el 16:9-14 "Then I bathed you with water, washed off your blood from you, and anointed you with oil. "I also clothed you with embroidered cloth, and put sandals of porpoise skin on your feet; and I wrapped you with fine linen and covered you with silk. "And I adorned you with ornaments, put bracelets on your hands, and a necklace around your neck. "I also put a ring in your nostril, earrings in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head. "Thus you were adorned with gold and silver, and your dress was of fine linen, silk, and embroidered cloth. You ate fine flour, honey, and oil; so you were exceedingly beautiful and advanced to royalty. "Then your fame went forth among the nations on account of your beauty, for it was perfect because of My splendor which I bestowed on you," declares the L-rd G-D.

G-d blessed Israel and treated His bride like a queen. The gifts mentioned here are typical wedding gifts given by a king to his queen.

The responsibility of the Mosaic covenant was to point us to our sin and our need for a savior from our sins.

The glory of Israel became great especially during the reign of Solomon.

Yechezk'el 16:15-22 "But you trusted in your beauty and played the harlot because of your fame, and you poured out your harlotries on every passer-by who might be willing. "And you took some of your clothes, made for yourself high places of various colors, and played the harlot on them, which should never come about nor happen. "You also took your beautiful jewels made of My gold and of My silver, which I had given you, and made for yourself male images that you might play the harlot with them. "Then you took your embroidered cloth and covered them, and offered My oil and My incense before them. "Also My bread which I gave you, fine flour, oil, and honey with which I fed you, you would offer before them for a soothing aroma; so it happened," declares the L-rd G-D. "Moreover, you took your sons and daughters whom you had borne to Me, and you sacrificed them to idols to be devoured. Were your harlotries so small a matter? "You slaughtered My children, and offered them up to idols by causing them to pass through the fire. "And besides all your abominations and harlotries you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare and squirming in your blood.

Israel used the gifts that HaShem had given her and offered them to pagan gods.

You slaughtered My children, and offered them up to idols - This is a reference to children being sacrificed to idols.

M'lakhim Bet (2 Kings) 16:3 But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and even made his son pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the L-RD had driven out from before the sons of Israel.

This may seem to be unthinkable and barbaric but we have the same thing going on today. This was all past but we should use this as an example. We should be thankful when we are blessed by G-d. We should not forget G-d in America and why this country is blessed. The USA was started by people who left Europe because of persecution for believing in Messiah. What will happen if this nation continues on its current path? What will happen to this country if it continues to destroy its children without any regard for life? Choosing to satisfy sexual desires and then not wanting the responsibility of raising a baby. One has a free choice before they get pregnant not afterward. Once you become pregnant you already made your choice and are held accountable for your actions. It does not matter if a doctor or a pill does the aborting. Children not only belong to us they belong to G-d. If you cut a child's life short out of self-centeredness, don't you think the L-rd can see it? Giving your child up for adoption is always an option. Yet everyone does what is right in his own eyes. What if this country stops being thankful and stops expressing its thankfulness to the One true G-d? What will happen to this country, or any country, when it starts to punish those who obey HaShem's command of telling others the good news? And that declaring Yeshua's love for mankind a hate crime against other beliefs? What if this country continues to disrespect Israel's divine right to the land allotted to them by HaShem? What will happen to all nations when they go against the apple of His eye?

Some of this happened in the time of Y'hoshafat but some foreshadowed a future time called the day of the L-rd when the Messiah will go against the nations and what will happen to them.

The following passage is in the 4th chapter in the book of Yo'el in the Tanakh but is the 3rd chapter in the modern translations.

Yo'el (Joel) 4:1-21 "For look, in those days and at that time, When I restore the fortunes of Y'hudah and Yerushalayim, I will gather all the nations, And bring them down to the valley of Y'hoshafat (Jehoshaphat) [Adonai judges]. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; And they have divided up My land. "They have also cast lots for My people, Traded a boy for a harlot, And sold a girl for wine that they may drink. "Moreover, what are you to Me, O Tyre, Sidon, and all the regions of Philistia? Are you rendering Me a recompense? But if you do recompense Me, swiftly and speedily I will return your recompense on your head. "Since you have taken My silver and My gold, brought My precious treasures to your temples, and sold the sons of Y'hudah and Yerushalayim to the Greeks in order to remove them far from their territory, look, I am going to arouse them from the place where you have sold them, and return your recompense on your head. "Also I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the sons of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a distant nation," for the L-RD has spoken. Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare a war; rouse the mighty men! Let all the soldiers draw near, let them come up! Beat your plowshares into swords, And your pruning hooks into spears; Let the weak say, "I am a mighty man." Hasten and come, all you surrounding nations, And gather yourselves there. Bring down, O L-RD, your mighty ones. Let the nations be aroused And come up to the valley of Y'hoshafat (Jehoshaphat), For there I will sit to judge All the surrounding nations. Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, tread, for the wine press is full; the vats overflow, for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision! For the day of the L-RD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and moon grow dark, And the stars lose their brightness. And the L-RD roars from Zion and utters His voice from Yerushalayim, and the heavens and the earth tremble. But the L-RD is a refuge for His people and a stronghold to the sons of Israel. Then you will know that I am the L-RD your G-d, Dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. So Yerushalayim will be holy, and strangers will pass through it no more. And it will come about in that day that the mountains will drip with sweet wine, and the hills will flow with milk, and all the brooks of Y'hudah will flow with water; And a spring will go out from the house of the L-RD, To water the valley of Shittim. Egypt will become a waste; And Edom will become a desolate wilderness, Because of the violence done to the sons of Judah, In whose land they have shed innocent blood. But Y'hudah will be inhabited forever, And Yerushalayim for all generations. And I will avenge their blood which I have not avenged, For the L-RD dwells in Zion.

Yechezk'el 16:23-29 "Then it came about after all your wickedness ('Woe, woe to you!' declares the L-rd G-D), that you built yourself a shrine and made yourself a high place in every square. "You built yourself a high place at the top of every street, and made your beauty abominable; and you spread your legs to every passer-by to multiply your harlotry. "You also played the harlot with the Egyptians, your lustful neighbors, and multiplied your harlotry to make Me angry. "Look now, I have stretched out My hand against you and diminished your rations. And I delivered you up to the desire of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who are ashamed of your lewd conduct. "Moreover, you played the harlot with the Assyrians because you were not satisfied; you even played the harlot with them and still were not satisfied. "You also multiplied your harlotry with the land of merchants, Chaldea, yet even with this you were not satisfied."' "

The idol worship of the Egyptians, the Philistines, the Assyrians, and the Babylonians had influenced them. Instead of being a light to the pagan nations around them they allowed the pagan nations to influence them.
