Yechezk'el (Ezekiel) Chapter 25

We are halfway though the book of Ezekiel. We have been reading chapter after chapter of G-d warning the Israelites of impending judgment. The next few chapters are warnings from G-d of judgment against the nations surrounding Israel.

The Ammonites - Amman is the capital of Jordan today. The Ammonites were a tribe that inhabited the northern portion of what is now modern day Jordan.

Yechezk'el 25:1-3 And the word of the L-RD came to me saying, "Son of man, set your face toward the sons of 'Amon, and prophesy against them, and say to the sons of 'Amon,' Hear the word of the L-rd G-D! Thus says the L-rd G-D, "Because you said, 'Aha!' against My sanctuary when it was profaned, and against the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and against the house of Y'hudah (Judah) when they went into exile,

Ben-'Ammi, the father of the Ammonites, was born from an incestuous relationship between Lot with his younger daughter.

Because you said, Aha! ... - This would be better stated as: "Because you gloated when my sanctuary was profaned"

The Ammonites were happy to see the temple of G-d desecrated. Because of this they would also be attacked and defeated by the Babylonians.

Love does not rejoice when another stumbles.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Yechezk'el 25:4-7 therefore, look, I am going to give you to the sons of the east for a possession, and they will set their encampments 'Among you and make their dwellings 'Among you; they will eat your fruit and drink your milk. "And I shall make Rabbah a pasture for camels and the sons of 'Amon a resting place for flocks. Thus you will know that I am the L-RD." 'For thus says the L-rd G-D, "Because you have clapped your hands and stamped your feet and rejoiced with all the scorn of your soul against the land of Israel, therefore, look, I have stretched out My hand against you, and I shall give you for spoil to the nations. And I shall cut you off from the peoples and make you perish from the lands; I shall destroy you. Thus you will know that I am the L-RD. "

The Moabites - The Moabites lived directly south of the Ammonites in what is now central Jordan. Rut (Ruth) was from Moab.
