Yechezk'el (Ezekiel) Chapter 35

Yechezk’el 35:1-2 Moreover, the “WORD” of the L-RD came to me saying, "Son of man, set your face against Mount Seir, and prophesy against it,

The corresponding letter to this chapter is Mem-revelation; revealed and concealed.

Mount Seir is located in what is now southern Jordan. At the time of Yechezk’el it was in the land of the Edomites. They would come against Israel when they were down. G-d’s judgment is revealed to them.

Yechezk’el 35:3-6 and say to it,' Thus says the L-rd G-D, "Look, I am against you, Mount Seir, and I will stretch out My hand against you, And I will make you a desolation and a waste. "I will lay waste your cities, And you will become a desolation. Then you will know that I am the L-RD. "Because you have had everlasting enmity and have delivered the sons of Israel to the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, at the time of the punishment of the end, therefore, as I live, "declares the L-rd G-D," I will give you over to bloodshed, and bloodshed will pursue you; since you have not hated bloodshed, therefore bloodshed will pursue you.

Since the time of Esav (Esau) and Ya’akov (Jacob) there has been hatred between these two peoples.

This chapter reminds us that G-d is true to His word. G-d promised Avraham (Abraham) that He would bless those who bless his descendants (Israel) and curse those that curse his descendants (Israel).

B’resheet (Genesis) 12:2-3 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

Yechezk’el 35:7-9 "And I will make Mount Seir a waste and a desolation, and I will cut off from it the one who passes through and returns. "And I will fill its mountains with its slain; on your hills and in your valleys and in all your ravines those slain by the sword will fall. "I will make you an everlasting desolation, and your cities will not be inhabited. Then you will know that I am the L-RD.

Elaine here: I was in Jordan years ago and the south end of the country, which is where Edom was located, is truly a desolate wasteland. Just sand, sand, and more sand for miles and miles. The mountains of Edom are desolate as well.

Yechezk’el 35:10-15 "Because you have said, 'These two nations and these two lands will be mine, and we will possess them,' although the L-RD was there, therefore, as I live, "declares the L-rd G-D," I will deal with you according to your anger and according to your envy which you showed because of your hatred against them; so I will make Myself known among them when I judge you. "Then you will know that I, the L-RD, have heard all your reviling which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel saying, 'They are laid desolate; they are given to us for food.' "And you have spoken arrogantly against Me and have multiplied your words against Me; I have heard." 'Thus says the L-rd G-D, "As all the earth rejoices, I will make you a desolation. "As you rejoiced over the inheritance of the house of Israel because it was desolate, so I will do to you. You will be a desolation, O Mount Seir, and all Edom, all of it. Then they will know that I am the L-RD."'

Two nations and these two lands – This refers to the land of Judah, the southern kingdom, and the land of Israel, the northern kingdom. The Edomites coveted the land that G-d had given them. Today the Arab nations are still coveting the land of Israel. They still have enmity in their hearts towards the children of Israel and want to destroy them. G-d will fight Israel’s battle. When all seems lost and they are completely helpless and cannot defend themselves then the L-rd will come to the rescue. We will learn more about this in chapters 38 and 39.

Revelation 19:11-21 And I saw heaven opened; and behold, a white horse, and He who sat upon it is called Faithful and True; and in righteousness He judges and wages war. And His eyes are a flame of fire, and upon His head are many diadems; and He has a name written upon Him which no one knows except Himself. And He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood; and His name is called The Word of G-d. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. And from His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may smite the nations; and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of G-d, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND L-RD OF LORDS." And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried out with a loud voice, saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, "Come, assemble for the great supper of G-d; in order that you may eat the flesh of kings and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men, both free men and slaves, and small and great. " And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies, assembled to make war against Him who sat upon the horse, and against His army. And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were thrown alive into the lake of fire which burns with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat upon the horse, and all the birds were filled with their flesh.
