37:1-2 The hand of the L-RD was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of the L-RD and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones. And He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were very dry.
Here we see the prophet Ezekiel being shown a vision by the L-rd. It is a valley of dry bones.
37: 3-6 And He said to me, "Son of man(Adam), can these bones live?" And I answered, "O L-RD G-D, Thou knowest." Again He said to me, "Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, 'O dry bones, hear the word of the L-RD.' "Thus says the L-RD G-D to these bones, 'Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life. 'And I will put sinews on you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin, and put breath in you that you may come alive; and you will know that I am the L-RD.' "
Ezekiel was 100% submissive to the L-rd. First he admitted his own shortcoming in not knowing the answer to the L-rd’s question. Then he followed the L-rd’s instructions without question to prophecy to a valley of skeletons.
37:7-10 So I prophesied as I was commanded; and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold, a rattling; and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked, and behold, sinews were on them, and flesh grew, and skin covered them; but there was no breath in them. Then He said to me, "Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, 'Thus says the L-RD G-D," Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they come to life. "'" So I prophesied as He commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they came to life, and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
I think you will agree that this is quite a vision that Ezekiel had. The bones came together and grew flesh. After Ezekiel prophesied again the breath of life came into them and they came to life.
If we stop here and do not read any further it would be difficult to guess at the meaning of the vision. I am sure he was scratching his head trying to understand what it symbolized. Then the L-rd explained the vision to him.
37:11-14 Then He said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, 'Our bones are dried up, and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.' "Therefore prophesy, and say to them, 'Thus says the L-RD G-D," Behold, I will open your graves and cause you to come up out of your graves, My people; and I will bring you into the land of Israel. "Then you will know that I am the L-RD, when I have opened your graves and caused you to come up out of your graves, My people. "And I will put My Spirit within you, and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the L-RD, have spoken and done it," declares the L-RD.' "
The L-rd told Ezekiel that this was the whole house of Israel. Israel would be dispersed through out the whole world and G-d would restore them to their homeland. They were cut off like Messiah and suffered like Him because they are a type of Messiah. They were waiting for a national resurrection. Only G-d could restore them after 1,900 years. And that is just what He did. Israel, the valley of dry bones, lives again! Praise HaShem!
Are you are Jewish? The very fact that you can answer yes to that question is a miracle and is proof that this passage in Ezekiel was divinely inspired. What other nation lost their homeland 2,000 years ago and then had it restored in a day? (1948 CE)
Who else without a homeland can trace their genealogy back 2,000 years? Most gentiles, especially in America, are lucky if they can trace their ancestors back 200 years. So when you look in the mirror and see a Jewish face looking back at you, know that you are seeing a fulfillment of Ezekiel 37 before your very eyes.
Israel has been restored to the land and some day they will as a nation turn to Yeshua.
Now the vision is over and the L-rd gave Ezekiel an illustration to give to the people.
Ez 37:15-17 The word of the L-RD came again to me saying, "And you, son of man, take for yourself one stick and write on it, 'For Judah and for the sons of Israel, his companions'; then take another stick and write on it, 'For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim and all the house of Israel, his companions.' "Then join them for yourself one to another into one stick, that they may become one in your hand.
Here the L-rd continued along the same train of thought. Not only will He restore the “whole house of Israel” to the land. He will unite the northern and southern kingdoms, divided after Solomon’s’ reign, into one nation again: the northern kingdom, the house of Ephraim, and the southern kingdom, the house of Judah.
Ez. 37:18-23 "And when the sons of your people speak to you saying, 'Will you not declare to us what you mean by these?' say to them,' Thus says the L-RD G-D, "Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel, his companions; and I will put them with it, with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they will be one in My hand."' "And the sticks on which you write will be in your hand before their eyes. "And say to them, 'Thus says the L-RD G-D," Behold, I will take the sons of Israel from among the nations where they have gone, and I will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; and I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king will be king for all of them; and they will no longer be two nations, and they will no longer be divided into two kingdoms. "And they will no longer defile themselves with their idols, or with their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. And they will be My people, and I will be their G-d.
He elaborated for another 5 verses on the meaning of the illustration so that it would be crystal clear.
“Sons of your people” - refer to Israel. Again the L-rd spells out that this will be a uniting of the northern and southern kingdoms. They will be ONE nation again. They will be brought back into the land of Israel from being scattered through out the world. We see this prophecy being fulfilled today. Many Jewish people have already returned to the land.
Eventually they will give up their idolatrous ways and worship HaShem only.
