Yechezk'el (Ezekiel) Chapter 5

Yechezk'el 5:1-4 "As for you, son of man, take a sharp sword; take and use it as a barber's razor on your head and beard. Then take scales for weighing and divide the hair. "One third you shall burn in the fire at the center of the city, when the days of the siege are completed. Then you shall take one third and strike it with the sword all around the city, and one third you shall scatter to the wind; and I will unsheathe a sword behind them. "Take also a few in number from them and bind them in the edges of your robes. "And take again some of them and throw them into the fire, and burn them in the fire; from it a fire will spread to all the house of Israel.

The hair in this passage represents the children of Israel.

Shaving his head represented the humiliation the children of Israel would suffer at the hands of their enemies.

We learn that one-third die from pestilence and famine, and one-third die from the sword. A final third would be scattered through out the world. The few hairs that were attached to the corners of Yechezk'el's garments represented the remnant that remained.

Yechezk'el 5:5-12 "Thus says the L-rd G-D, 'This is Yerushalayim; I have set her at the center of the nations, with lands around her. 'But she has rebelled against My ordinances more wickedly than the nations and against My statutes more than the lands which surround her; for they have rejected My ordinances and have not walked in My statutes.' "Therefore, thus says the L-rd G-D, 'Because you have more turmoil than the nations which surround you, and have not walked in My statutes, nor observed My ordinances, nor observed the ordinances of the nations which surround you,' therefore, thus says the L-rd G-D,' Look, I, even I, am against you, and I will execute judgments among you in the sight of the nations. 'And because of all your abominations, I will do among you what I have not done, and the like of which I will never do again. 'Therefore, fathers will eat their sons among you, and sons will eat their fathers; for I will execute judgments on you, and scatter all your remnant to every wind. 'So as I live,' declares the L-rd G-D,' surely, because you have defiled My sanctuary with all your detestable idols and with all your abominations, therefore I will also withdraw, and My eye shall have no pity and I will not spare. 'One third of you will die by plague or be consumed by famine among you, one third will fall by the sword around you, and one third I will scatter to every wind, and I will unsheathe a sword behind them.

More wickedly than the nations - What a sad statement! Israel, the apple of G-d's eye, had rebelled against Him to such an extent that G-d had no choice to punish her.

False prophets were saying it would not come to pass. You could say it was not politically correct. HaShem does not care what man considers politically correct. You may have an opinion about something and I may have an opinion about something but guess what? Does it really matter? What matters is what HaShem thinks. He said these things would happen to Israel and they did. We must also note the L-rd said His wrath would not go against them like this again. It did not say this would not happen to the world again.

Today we have many false prophets declaring that what is predicted in Revelation will not happen either. It will. Some say all that things that take place in Revelation already happened in 70 A.D. Of course this does not make sense. First of all, Revelation was not written until 90 A.D., which was many years after the destruction of the temple.

Second, the word clearly states:

Revelation 1:19 "Write therefore the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall take place after these things.

This passage clearly states that the things written are about are future events. "...And the things which shall take place after these things."

During a future time the world will see one-fourth of the world population die by the sword, hunger, and death, and the beasts of the earth.

Revelation 6:8 And I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. And authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.

Later one third of mankind will die.

Revelation 9:15 And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they might kill a third of mankind.

With just these 2 judgments 1/2 of the world population will be wiped out. This is just the result of 2 of G-d's judgments. Many will die from the other judgments too.

A remnant of Israel will be scattered and kept from harm in Petra.

Today certain people are not listening to what HaShem says or what Ruach HaKodesh is saying regarding the future.

Revelation 2:11 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.'

The corresponding letter to this chapter is Hay - breath; spirit of G-d

Fathers will eat their sons among you, and sons will eat their fathers - This is recorded in the book of Eikhah (Lamentations).

Eikhah (Lamentations) 2:20 See, O L-RD, and look! With whom hast Thou dealt thus? Should women eat their offspring, the little ones who were born healthy? Should priest and prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the L-rd?

Eikhah (Lamentations) 4:10 The hands of compassionate women boiled their own children; They became food for them Because of the destruction of the daughter of my people.

As I live - Here G-d pledges His very existence that this prophecy will be fulfilled. HaShem uses this expression 14 times in the book of Yechezk'el.

Yechezk'el 5:13-17 'Thus My anger will be spent, and I will satisfy My wrath on them, and I shall be appeased; then they will know that I, the L-RD, have spoken in My zeal when I have spent My wrath upon them. 'Moreover, I will make you a desolation and a reproach among the nations which surround you, in the sight of all who pass by. 'So it will be a reproach, a reviling, a warning and an object of horror to the nations who surround you, when I execute judgments against you in anger, wrath, and raging rebukes. I, the L-RD, have spoken. 'When I send against them the deadly arrows of famine which were for the destruction of those whom I shall send to destroy you, then I shall also intensify the famine upon you, and break the staff of bread. 'Moreover, I will send on you famine and wild beasts, and they will bereave you of children; plague and bloodshed also will pass through you, and I will bring the sword on you. I, the L-RD, have spoken.' "

Here we see that G-d hates idolatry and apostasy. It is repeated again and again that His wrath is being poured out against Israel.

Later the L-rd will satisfy His wrath on the nations that go against Israel.

Zephaniah 1:14-2:1 Near is the great day of the L-RD, Near and coming very quickly; Listen, the day of the L-RD! In it the warrior cries out bitterly. A day of wrath is that day, A day of trouble and distress, A day of destruction and desolation, A day of darkness and gloom, A day of clouds and thick darkness, A day of trumpet and battle cry, Against the fortified cities And the high corner towers. And I will bring distress on men, So that they will walk like the blind, Because they have sinned against the L-RD; And their blood will be poured out like dust, and their flesh like dung. Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them on the day of the L-rd's wrath; and all the earth will be devoured In the fire of His jealousy, For He will make a complete end, Indeed a terrifying one, of all the inhabitants of the earth.

Revelation 6:15-17 And the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; for the great day of their wrath has come; and who is able to stand?
