B'resheet (Genesis) Chapter 36

In this chapter we see that G-d still blessed Esav and his offspring regardless of his earlier downfall and failures in his life. This is true of all of us.

The corresponding letter to this chapter is Nun - FAITHFULNESS; soul; downfall and rising again; also emergence.

B'resheet 36:1 Now these are the records of the generations of Esav (Esau) (that is, Edom).

Esav is the father of the Edomites. Edom is located to the south east of the Dead Sea in what is now modern day Jordan.

B'resheet 36:2-7 Esav (Esau) took his wives from the daughters of Kena'ani: Adah the daughter of Eilon the Hitti, and Oholivamah the daughter of Anah and the granddaughter of Tziv'on the Hivite; also Basmat, Yishma'el's daughter, the sister of N'vayot. And Adah bore Elifaz to Esav, and Basmat bore Re'u'el, and Oholivamah bore Ye'ush and Ya'lam and Korach. These are the sons of Esav who were born to him in the land of Canaan. Then Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters and all his household, and his livestock and all his cattle and all his goods which he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to another land away from his brother Ya'akov (Jacob). For their property had become too great for them to live together, and the land where they sojourned could not sustain them because of their livestock.

Out of the BLESSINGS from HaShem the brothers would be separated. Esav's descendents would arise in the hill country.

B'resheet 36:8-9 So Esav (Esau) lived in the hill country of Seir; Esav is Edom. These then are the records of the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir.

This is the area where Petra is located in Jordan.

B'resheet 36:10-14 These are the names of Esau's sons: Elifaz the son of Esav's wife Adah, Reuel the son of Esav's wife Basmat. And the sons of Elifaz were Teman, Omar, Tzefo and Ga'tam and K'naz. And Timna was a concubine of Esav's son Eliphaz and she bore Amalek to Elifaz. These are the sons of Esav's wife Adah. And these are the sons of Re'u'el: Nachat and Zerach, Shammah and Mizah. These were the sons of Esav's wife Basmat. And these were the sons of Esav's wife Oholivamah, the daughter of Anah and the granddaughter of Tziv'on: she bore to Esav, Ye'ush and Ya'lam and Korach.

Timna was a concubine - Timna is listed a little further down she is the daughter of one of the locals. She had a baby names Amalek. He would become the father of the Amalekites. The Amalekites became one of Israel's enemies.

B'resheet 36:15-19 These are the chiefs of the sons of Esav. The sons of Elifaz, the first-born of Esau, are chief Teman, chief Omar, chief Tzepho, chief K'naz, chief Korach, chief Ga'tam, chief 'Amalek. These are the chiefs descended from Elifaz in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Adah. And these are the sons of Re'u'el, Esav's son: chief Nachat, chief Zerach, chief Shammah, chief Mizah. These are the chiefs descended from Re'u'el in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Esav's wife Basmat. And these are the sons of Esav's wife Oholivamah: chief Ye'ush, chief Ya'lam, chief Korach. These are the chiefs descended from Esav's wife Oholivamah, the daughter of Anah. These are the sons of Esav (that is, Edom), and these are their chiefs.

Some translations use duke instead of chief.

Seir was a Horite. The Horites inhabited the region before Esav. They intermarried with Esav's descendants.

B'resheet 36:20-30 These are the sons of Seir the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan and Shoval and Tziv'on and Anah, and Dishon and Etzer and Dishan. These are the chiefs descended from the Hori, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom. And the sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan's sister was Timnah. And these are the sons of Shoval: Alvan and Manachat and Eival, Sh'fo and Onam. And these are the sons of Tziv'on: Ayah and 'Anah-- he is the 'Anah who found the hot springs in the wilderness when he was pasturing the donkeys of his father Tziv'on. And these are the children of 'Anah: Dishon, and Oholivamah, the daughter of Anah. And these are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan and Eshban and Yitran and K'ran. These are the sons of Etzer: Bilhan and Za'avan and 'Akan. These are the sons of Dishan: Utz and Aran. These are the chiefs descended from the Hori: chief Lotan, chief Shoval, chief Tziv'on, chief 'Anah, chief Dishon, chief Etzer, chief Dishan. These are the chiefs descended from the Horites, according to their various chiefs in the land of Se'ir.

Lotan's sister was Timnah - This is the same Timna listed above.

Oholivamah, the daughter of Anah - Is listed above as the wife of Esav.

Here we see and the physical end of Esav on earth and a list and death of each member of his generational offspring. Each earthly King would finally come to an end and each would come to eternal peace or eternal destruction depending on their faith in the coming Divine King Yeshua HaMashiach. He grants forgiveness to those who only ask for mercy and believe that He would die for them. In by doing so He fulfilled the law therefore canceling the debt that we owe that could stop us from receiving spiritual life now and for eternity. This is why He came. There is no greater love than the love of one who would die for his friends.

John 15:13-20 "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. "You are My friends, if you do what I command you. "No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. "You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask of the Father in My name, He may give to you. "This I command you, that you love one another. "If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. "Remember the word that I said to you, 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also. NAS

This BLESSING too from HaShem sometimes separates brothers, etc.

John 10:10-17 The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it ABUNTANTLY. "I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. "He who is a hireling, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, beholds the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees, and the wolf snatches them, and scatters them. "He flees because he is a hireling, and is not concerned about the sheep. "I am the good shepherd; and I know My own, and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. "And I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they shall hear My voice; and they shall become one flock with one shepherd. NAS

Luke 12:51-53 Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." NKJV

These are the names of the generations that had faith and trusted in HaShem and rose again to the heavenlies above.
