Hebrews Chapter 10

Heb 10:1-4 The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming-not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. If it could, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.

Again the writer of Hebrews tells us that the temple sacrifices were not able to make mankind perfect. If the blood of bulls and goats were sufficient to take away sins then the sacrifice would have only been necessary once.

Heb 10:5-7 Therefore, when Mashiach (Christ) came into the world, He said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. Then I said, `Here I am-it is written about me in the scroll-I have come to do your will, O G-d.'"

In Yesha'yahu (Isaiah) 1:11 we read:

"To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the L-RD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats."

There are those that use this passage to say that sacrifice is not necessary for our atonement. Sadly they take the verse out of context to try to ease their own consciences. By reading the first chapter of Yesha'yahu we see that the L-rd did not delight in the sacrifices because the hearts of the offerers were far from Him.

Yeshua was born to live a perfect life and to die for our sins. The New Covenant is broader in scope. WHOSOEVER believes will be saved.

John 11:25-26 Yeshua said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

John 12:42-46 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the (some) Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of G-d. Yeshua cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.

Hebrews 10:8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

This verse emphases that the torah required the shedding of blood as forgiveness for sins.

Hebrews 10:9-10 Then He said, "Here I am, I have come to do your will." He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ) once for all.

G-d has set aside the imperfect animal sacrifices to establish the perfect sacrifice of the body of Yeshua, who only shed his blood once for all of us.

Yom Kipper speaks of National Atonement. One day Israel as a nation will accept Yeshua as their atonement. Yeshua was killed on Passover. Passover speaks of "individual atonement." HE fulfilled both types!! The blood of bulls and goats are no longer necessary for our atonement!!! If you consider yourself under the law your faith in Yeshua is of no effect. To do so counts His Blood as unworthy and unholy despite His mercy and grace. The goal of the law was to point to the Mashiach.

Heb 10:11-13 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest (Yeshua) had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of G-d.

John 19:30 So when Yeshua (Jesus) had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

IT IS FINISHED!!! There is no more need for another animal sacrifice for our atonement. He paid the price!

Notice it tells us He sat down at the right hand of the Father. Did the other High Priests sit down? I don't think so. The only seat in the temple was the mercy seat (lid of the ark of the covenant) and we know man did not use it. So why didn't they sit down? Because the redemptive work was never finished, but Yeshua's redemptive work is done. However He is still our mediator and High Priest.

Heb 10:13-14 Since that time He waits for His enemies to be made His footstool, because by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

Well here we see a messianic prophecy being fulfilled. :~)

Tehillim (Psalms) 110:1 The L-RD (the Father) said unto my L-rd (Yeshua), Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

He has made perfect FOREVER those who accept Him as their Mashiach and His blood as their atonement.

Hebrews 10:15-17 Whereof Ruach HaKodesh(the Holy Spirit) also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the L-rd, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

This is a quote from:

Jeremiah 31:31-34 Behold, the days come, saith the L-RD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the L-RD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the L-RD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their G-d, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the L-RD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the L-RD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

It is another fulfillment of prophecy.

Hebrews 10:18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

We are told that when there is remission (deliverance, forgiveness, liberty) for sin then there is no longer an offering for sin. Why? The price has been paid. Praise G-d!

Hebrews 10:19-22 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Yeshua (Jesus), By a new and living way, which He hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of G-d; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Did you read that? Wow! By the blood of Yeshua was can boldly enter the Holy of Holies!!!! We can come before the throne of G-d, BOLDLY!!! This is the same throne, the same G-d that the High Priests could only approach once a year and they came knowing that if they were not right with G-d they would be killed on the spot by the almighty.

Yeshua is our High Priest who has offered up his blood and promises our sin is forgiven. We have no more fear of losing our salvation. We can boldly go through the veil through the work of Yeshua only. Only belief in Him is sufficient.

We are sealed on the day we trust in the blood of Yeshua. It was, is, and always will be sufficient to enter into heaven. If G-d where to ask you if you died today why He should let you into heaven, what would be your response?

Hebrews 10:23-25 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

We are encouraged to hold on to our faith. Even more so when we see "The day approaching". What day? The day Yeshua returns.

Hebrews 10:26-27 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of G-d.

This is speaking of the sin of apostasy, an intentional defection of the faith. An apostate is one who moves toward Yeshua, hears and understands the good news, but then denies Yeshua's blood as sufficient atonement for their sins. This is one of the most serious warnings of all scripture.

Hebrews 10:28-31 "Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of G-d under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace (Ruach HaKodesh)?

(Oh Boy! Look out! - This warning speaks for itself!)

For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," (See Ps 94:1)

and again, "The L-rd will judge his people." (See Deut 32:35-36)

It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living G-d."

Hebrews 10:34-37 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of G-d, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

Hebrews 10:38-39 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.(breath or nephesh)

We have faith in His promise. Hebrews 11 continues with those that had this faith and looked forward to the coming of Yeshua. Don't draw back into apostasy and add other things to your salvation.
