Hebrews 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith (trusting): but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
The just shall live by faith. What is this faith (trusting) like?
What is called the "Hall of Faith" or trusting?
Hebrews 11:1-11 Now faith(trusting) is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of G-d, so that things, which are seen, were not made of things, which do appear. By faith Abel (Hevel) offered unto G-d a more excellent sacrifice than Cain (Kayin), by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, G-d testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. By faith Enoch (Hanokh) was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because G-d had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased G-d. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to G-d must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. By faith Noah (Noach), being warned of G-d of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith(trusting). By faith Abraham (Avraham), when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac (Yitz'chak) and Jacob(Ya'akov), the heirs with him of the same promise: For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is G-d.
Through FAITH (TRUSTING) also Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.Even in Gen. 18:12, though she had laughed and denied she laughed, Hebrews lists Sarah for her trusting. She must have been forgiven and been faithful of His promise in the end. In same manner of trusting Sarah trusted the Father also had a unique Son for in the next verse it states they saw the promise from afar.
Heb 11:12-13 Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable. These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having SEEN THEM afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Hebrews 11:14-19 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. But now they desire a better country, that is, a HEAVENLY wherefore G-d is not ashamed to be called their G-d: for he hath prepared for them a city. By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son, Of whom it was said, That in Isaac (Yitz'chak) shall thy seed be called: Accounting that G-d was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.
In the same manner Avraham left his country and also trusted G-d in regard to his son that would be the sacrifice. We cannot go on with each and how they pointed to the Messiah. I will lightly touch on some of them. Isaac was to be a type of Yeshua. This son of Abraham, symbolic of what was to come the offering of the Son (Yeshua) by the Father in the fullness of time. If you trust in him you are trusting in the Father. (John 12:43-46) For G-d is still One as Israel is still One.
Hebrews 11:20-23 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau (Esav) concerning things to come. By faith Jacob (Ya'akov), when he was a dying, blessed both the sons of Joseph(Yosef); and worshipped, leaning upon the top of his staff(walking stick). By faith Joseph, when he died, made mention of the departing of the children of Israel; and gave commandment concerning his bones. By faith Moshe, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper (beautiful) child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.
(Moshe another type whom was adopted son of Pharaoh, in like manner Yeshua would be adopted son of Joseph. Yeshua was a prophet like unto Moshe.(Deut. 18:15.
See also Moshe.
Hebrews 11:24-30 By faith(trusting) Moshe, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter; Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of G-d, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; Esteeming the reproach of Christ(Anointed) greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. Through faith(trusting) he kept the Passover(Pesach), and the sprinkling of blood, lest he that destroyed the firstborn should touch them. By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.
This is listed in Joshua (Y'hoshua) 2:1-3. Joshua sends spies into Jericho (Yericho), which means "the house of the moon god." Rahab was a gentile prostitute. Yet she is listed as an example for her faith(trusting)!! (When believers are judged under at the Bema judgment (The Judgment Seat of Yeshua) our sins will not be the issue for our salvation. The only accuser of the brethren is HaSatan and he continues to accuse us. (Rev. 12:10) At the "Bema Judgment" we will be their to receive rewards or lack of rewards for our works. Our works are declared. (I Corinth 3-4) Even our motives for why we do what we do will be regarded. (1 Corinth Ch. 4:5)
For more on the Bema Judgment.
Hebrews 11:31 By faith the harlot Rahab (Rachav) perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.
If we read the story in Joshua (Y'hoshua) we find Rahab, a Gentile, asked for mercy, even though she was a Gentile, if she did not tell on the spies.
She was instructed by the spies to:
Remain in the house and tie a scarlet cord in the window. This sounds like Passover of the righteous Gentiles. She was saved physically because of her faith. This is symbolic of our salvation. Lets explore her actions:
James 2:25 also sites Rahab's faith(trusting) as an example. Rahab's works did not bring eternal salvation. However, one who has this trusting will have works.
She knew she must obey the moral aspects of the law. She knew there would be consequences in her life if she did not. She did turn from her sin and she eventually married. She became part of the family and eventually the royal family of Yeshua's human nature. Mercy wins over judgment. (James 2:12)
Matt. 1:5 Bo'az by Rahab (Rachav) Rahab married into a royal priesthood. When we trust in Yeshua we also marry into the royal priesthood. We will reign as priests and kings on earth during Yeshua's one thousand-year reign. (Rev. 5:10)
Hebrews 11:32-40 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and of Barak, and of Samson(Shimshon), and of Jephthah (Yiftach); of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith (trusting) subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions(Daniel 6:23), Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. And these all, having obtained a good report through faith (trusting), received not the promise: G-d having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.(brought to the goal.)
We will all reach the goal together as a family should.
