Hebrews Chapter 12

Hebrews 12:1-4 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us,

(what was the sin in the last chapter? Unbelief.)

and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Yeshua the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the execution stake, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of G-d. For CONSIDER HIM that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

Yeshua is the author and finisher of our faith. He is the OBJECT of our trusting and faith. All these things point to him. He went ahead of us like Joshua. Let's continue the faith (trusting) like the ones listed in Hebrews 11. If we think you have suffered for it, we should look to the example of Yeshua. Have you suffered as much as Yeshua? So we have no need to complain until we do. And when we do, look to him.

Hebrews 12:5-7 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the L-rd, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the L-rd loveth he chasteneth (disciplines), and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening (being disciplined), G-d dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

If we are followers of Yeshua, we will receive discipline.

Hebrews 12 8-9 But if ye be without chastisement (discipline), whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh, which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of (our) spirits, and live?

If you are not chastised then you are not really believers at all. Many only give him lip service but their hearts are far from him and never knew him.

Hebrews 12:10-13 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening (discipline) for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up the hands, (work for Yeshua) which hang down, and stengthen the feeble knees (start praying); And make straight paths for your feet,(remove all obstacles to grace, mercy) lest that which is lame (weak in the faith) be turned out of the way but let it rather be healed. (restore what is defective now so it can heal.)

Hebrews 12:14-17 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the L-rd: Looking diligently lest any man fail (fall short) of the GRACE (Mercy) of G-d (Keep you eyes on Yeshua); lest any root of bitterness (corrupted apostate influences) springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Lest there be any fornicator, (spiritual immorality) or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright. For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

In Genesis 25:30-34 we learn that Esau through self-will cast away his spiritual blessings. Esau wanted the blessings but he did not want G-d. He felt no responsibility toward Him. He despised discipline. He is an example of one who willingly sinned against G-d even though he knew the truth and he hardened his heart. He was just sad that he was caught and that he missed the blessings.

Hebrews 12:18-22 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest, And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart: And so terrible was the sight, that Moshe said, I exceedingly fear and quake:

(This is not the old covenant. Don't fall back. We are not required to be under it. We are under a New Covenant. We can come boldly to the Father without fear of death.)

But ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living G-d, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,

(The New Jerusalem comes down from Heaven after the thousand-year reign of Yeshua. Rev. 21)

Hebrews 12:23-24 To the general assembly and church (synagogue) of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to G-d the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, And to Jesus (Yeshua) the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh BETTER things than that of Abel.

Fifth Warning- about despising G-d's Word:

Hebrews 12:25-29 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have GRACE (MERCY), whereby we may serve G-d acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our G-d is a consuming fire.
