Hebrews Chapter 6

Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Mashiach (Christ), let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward G-d,

Let’s go from milk to solid food.

Don’t go back laying our foundation on:

Hebrews 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

Repentance from works, turning from evil deeds that bring death. (Ezek. 18:4)

Faith toward G-d, (faith only to the Father, This is unacceptable without Faith in His Son, Yeshua. (Acts 4:12, James 2:14-20)

Washings (washings in the Levitical system. Ex. 30:18-21;Lev. 16:4,24,26,28;Mark 7:4,8). This is referring to the priests washing at the golden laver.

Laying on of hands. This was done to the sacrifice to symbolize as a substitute for sin. (Lev. 1:4, 3:8, 13; 16:21)

Resurrection, and of eternal judgment.

Resurrection of the dead was taught in the Tanakh but now we teach the resurrection of Yeshua and the living Yeshua. Eternal judgment was taught in the Tanakh.

Hebrews 6:3 And this will we do, if G-d permit.

Redemption comes from G-d.

Hebrews 6:4-7 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit), and have tasted the good word of G-d and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of G-d, and put Him to an open shame.

These verses have been misinterpreted to support the idea that one can loose their eternal salvation. However, this is not what the passage is saying. Think of it this way. Imagine that you are blindfolded and lead into a room that you had never been in before. Once inside you are asked to describe the room. Now you might be able to feel your way around and determine that there is a couch, chair, etc. But you would not be able to determine color scheme, etc. Now if you took off the blindfold and had a look around the room, you would know exactly what the room looked like in every way. It would be impossible for you to go back to your previous state. It is the same thing with Yeshua. Once you have experienced forgiveness of sins and have applied His shed blood to the doorpost of your heart. It is impossible to return to your previous state.

In verse 6. “if they fall away” there is no “IF” in the Greek text.

“having falling away as in “unfaithfulness” or “apostasy”.

We shame Yeshua if we rely on the Old foundations for our faith. This re-crucifies Yeshua because it treats Him with contempt. We are slapping Him in the face and saying to Him. What you did for me on the execution stake was not enough. I want to do it my way. By doing this we openly shame him.

3rd. warning-about departing from the Word.

Hebrews 6:7-12 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from G-d: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak. For G-d is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Warning to believers: physical death

Warning for believers against not producing fruit and depending on the law for salvation. If one considers himself under the Levitical System then one will be judged under this system. Yeshua is of no effect for you.

So continue in faith in Yeshua and declare it. He is our hope. We should be telling the truth of the righteous Messiah dying for us.

Yeshua declared in:

John 15:1-6 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word, which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

This does not mean we are not to follow the moral oracles or are to live the way we want to. G-d will chastise us if we disobey Him in this respect.

Heb 6:13-20 For when G-d made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, "Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you." And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. Thus G-d, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for G-d to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Yeshua (Jesus), having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.

G-d swore by Himself for it is impossible for G-d to lie. Nothing is too hard for G-d (like G-d becoming a man) but some things are impossible because of His nature. He cannot lie. Isn’t it comforting to know we have His word and Him to depend on? His perfection is what sets Him apart.

So we hope in Yeshua who has entered G-d’s presence in heaven above just as the High Priest entered in to the Holy of Holies on our behalf.
