John Chapter 15 (Continued)

He commands us to love one another.

When Yeshua was asked by the Pharisees which command was the greatest he told them all the law (instructions) boiled down to “Love G-d and Love others”.

Matt 22:34-40 But when the Pharisees had heard that he had put the Sadducees to silence, they were gathered together. Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked Him a question, tempting Him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Yeshua (Jesus) said to him, You shall love the L-rd your G-d with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

We have a reference here to Yeshua’s atoning death on the execution stake. Yeshua laid His life down for His friends and we are to show the same kind of love for others.

James 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which said, Abraham believed G-d, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of G-d.

We also are referred to as the Friend of G-d if we accept Yeshua as our Messiah.

Yeshua reminds them that He chose them they did not choose Him.

Ephesians 1:3-6 Blessed be the G-d and Father of our L-rd Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ), who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Mashiach (Christ): According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ) to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He has made us accepted in the beloved.

We are chosen to bear fruit:

Godly attitudes -

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. (Instructions)

Righteousness Behavior

Philippians 1:11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ), unto the glory and praise of G-d.

Hebrews 13:15 By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to G-d continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.

Telling others about Yeshua

Romans 1:13-16 Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come to you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles. I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise. So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Mashiach (Christ): for it is the power of G-d unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

  1. Their relationship to the world (verses 18-25)

John 15:18-25 If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. He who hates Me hates My Father also. If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father. But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.'

Satan is the “god of this world” and has blinded the unbelievers.

2 Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Mashiach (Christ), who is the image of G-d, should shine unto them.

We should not be surprised when we are persecuted and hated because of our belief in Yeshua. The unbelievers hated Yeshua and so it is logical and natural that they would hate us His talmidim too.

Psalms 35:19 Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.

John 15:26-27: But when the Comforter (Ruach HaKodesh) is come, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me: And you also shall bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning. (Disciples would bear witness.)

1 John 2:13-15 I write to you, fathers, because you have known him that is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you have known him that is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of G-d abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
