The nineteenth letter of the Hebrew Alpha-Bet is Koph - holiness; cycles of growth.
John 19:1 Then Pilate therefore took Yeshua (Jesus), and scourged Him.
John Mattingly describes the whipping of a victim prior to crucifixion:
“The adjudged criminal was usually first forcefully stripped o f his clothes, and then tied to a post or pillar in the tribunal. Then the awful and cruel scourging was administered by the lectors or scourgers. Although the Hebrews limited by their law the number of strokes in a scourging to forty, the Romans set no such limitation; and the victim was at the mercy of his scourgers.”
“The brutal instrument used to scourge the victim was called a falgrum. Of this device Mattingly comments: “It can readily be seen that the long, lashing pieces of bone and metal would greatly lacerate human flesh.’’ 42/21 (Mattingly, John P. Crucifixion: Its Origin and Application to Christ. Unpublished Th. M. Thesis: Dallas Theological Seminary, May 1961.)
John 19:2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe,
The “crown” was made from the long spikes (up to 12 inches / 30 cm) of a date palm or a thorn bush. They were formed into an imitation of the radiating crowns, which oriental kings wore.
John 19:3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! And they struck Him with their hands.
When we were in Israel we went to the place where Yeshua would have been scourged. The original floor of the building is still there after 2,000 years! On the floor was a carving of a game. The game was called the “King’s game”. Roman soldiers played the game at the time of Yeshua. Someone was “it”. The person who was “it” was made “king”. The king was beaten, spit upon, given a crown of thorns, and a robe to wear. Sound familiar? Not to mention that “the king” was then put to death. So there is a good possibility that they were playing this game with “Yeshua”.
John 19:4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and said to them, Behold, I bring Him forth to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him.
Yeshua was Holy.
John 19:5 Then came Yeshua (Jesus) forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, Behold the man!
Yeshua still had a human nature. (Ben Adam) This does not negate the other level of understanding.
Does that mean there is not a hidden meaning or higher level of understanding. The linage of the Messiah would be long. In Luke, His genealogy goes back to Adam. Then it states Yeshua was the Son of G-d.
How long does G-d go back? How long does Yeshua go back? (We will present in Ch. 21 where He was here in the Torah before the SUN ……to show it has nothing to do with sun worship.)
John 19:6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, crucify Him, crucify Him. Pilate said to them, You take Him, and crucify Him: for I find no fault in Him.
He was sinless.
John 19:7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law (Torah) He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of G-d.
As we know in Israel, kings and angels are considered “a son” but it was not to be taken literally. We mentioned earlier Yeshua had used a verse earlier mentioning doesn’t it say, “You will be gods.”
These earlier kings all failed in some way. We are then led from these types to a future cycle of higher understanding of the Messiah.
What does it mean by Son?
We don’t actually totally understand what this concept means. WE are sons but He alone has a unique relationship that we do not totally understand. Son would still be the closest word to describe Him. We have already said when you see Him you see the Father. Also the Father and Yeshua are ONE.
Scripture helps us in some respects.
John 3:16 For G-d so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Notice it says “begotten” not “created”. If we think of the meaning of koph and cycles of growth- He is the first begotten of the dead and we know Him as our first fruit. (Ps. 2:7) He was raised to paradise first (or the Garden of Eden) bringing others with Him.
We know that the Torah (word) leads us to different levels of understanding. Such as peshat - simple; remez - illusion; derush - inference; and sod - secrets that lead us to PRDS (Paradise).
Yeshua, the Word (John 1:1), the second Adam through a cycle, takes us back to Paradise (aka. the garden (gahn) of Eden). He also restored what Adam lost for us, separation from G-d. He took away what the first Adam brought,: the curse (Gen. 3:14, cf Gal. 3:13:), death(Gen. 2:17, cf. Jn. 11:25), nakedness (3:7 cf. Jn 19:23), sorrow (Gen. 3:17; cf. Isa. 53:3,) thorns (Gen. 3:18, Jn 19:5) Sweat (Gen. 3:19 cf. LK. 22:44) and the sword (Gen. 3:24, cf. Jn. 19:34)
The New Covenant cross reference verses listed above along with other cross reference verses from the Torah explain how He dwelt with each Word.
Works of Condemnation have forever been blotted out. They are declared blotted out and will be blotted out. For some it has happened already for others it will happen. (Colossians. 2:14) We are set apart.
We will be like Him and reign and be glorified with Him. We are now lower than the angels. We of course will not be literal G-d’s like some cults believe. . I think we may become higher than the angels. O what things G-d has in store for those that have believed in His name.
1 Cor 2:9-12 But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which G-d has prepared for them that love him. But G-d has revealed them to us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yes, and deep things of G-d. For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man, which is in him? even so the things of G-d knows no man, but the Spirit of G-d. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit, which is of G-d; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of G-d.
(Messianic prophecy also mentioned in Midrash Telhillim)
In Ps. 86:28 the Davidic king, is given and exalted title of “firstborn” and was “the most high of the kings of the earth.” This king is worshipped. Yeshua as the King of Kings will be worshipped. AS said before from scripture pay homage to the son.
Psalms 89:27 Also I will make Him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
Psalms 18:44 As soon as they hear of Me, they shall obey Me: the strangers shall submit themselves to Me.
Psalms 72:11 Yes, all kings shall fall down before Him: all nations shall serve Him.
Doesn’t Scripture clarify this and possibly lead us to the ultimate fulfillment in the future reign of the Yeshua HaMashiach?
Again even the angels of G-d will worship Him. He is Holy (meaning of Koph). He is set apart.
Heb 1:4-8 Being made so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For to which of the angels said He at any time, You are my Son, this day have I begotten You? And again, I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son? And again, when he brings in the first begotten into the world, he said, And let all the angels of G-d worship Him. And of the angels He said, who makes His angels spirits, and His ministers a flame of fire. But to the Son He says, Your throne, O G-d, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom. (cf : Ps 2:7)
Ps 45:6 Your throne, O Elohim, is for ever and ever: the scepter of your kingdom is a right scepter.
It is not “given of G-d” as some translations state.
Prov. 30:4 What is His name Or His sons name? Surely you know.
John 19:8-10 Therefore, when Pilate heard that saying, He was the more afraid, and went again into the Praetorium, and said to Yeshua (Jesus) "Where are You from?" But Yeshua (Jesus) gave him no answer. Then Pilate said to Him, "Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?"
Pilate was thinking in human terms. Yeshua was His prisoner and he expected an answer.
