Yonah (Jonah) Chapter 3

Yonah 3:1-2 And the word of Adonai came to Yonah the second time, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry to it the proclamation that I bid you.

The mercy of Adonai gives Yonah another chance. He shows loving kindness.

While we were yet sinners, Yeshua died for us and rose to claim liberty to the captives. These captive spirits went out into the city of Jerusalem and were a witness to others.

Matt 27:49-53 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him. Yeshua, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the spirit. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared to many.

We have adversaries including those who wish us harm. Many may be known for their cruelty as these people where. We should still tell them about their wrongs and also about Yeshua and how He will set them free from their sin. Continue to pray for them.

Yeshua’s name is above every other name, including “Allah”!

Phil 2:6-11 who, although He existed in the form of G-d, did not regard equality with G-d a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Execution stake) Therefore also G-d highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Yeshua (Jesus) every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ) is L-rd, to the glory of G-d the Father. NAS

We do this out of Loving kindness for our fellow man so they can walk in truth and light.

Eph 5:8-14 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the L-rd; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the L-rd. Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. For this reason it says, "Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And (Messiah) Christ will shine on you."

The third letter is Gimel- loving kindness

Yonah 3:3 So Yonah arose, and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the Adonai. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

Nineveh was not only large but a very important city of that day. The circumference of the city was about 60 miles. Indeed it would have taken 3 days to cross it and stopping to preach along the way would only lengthen the time it took Yonah.

Yonah 3:4 And Yonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh will be overthrown.

His message was very short. “Yet forty days, and Nineveh will be overthrown”. Yet it was very, very effective.

There is a thought that Yonah being in the fish for three days would have had a white appearance from the stomach juices of the fish. He could have looked like a ghost and could have caused a great freight in the people. This also reminds me of those spirits set free from Yeshua when Yeshua died on the execution stake.

Matt 27:52-54 “and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.” (NAS)

Yonah 3:5 So the people of Nineveh believed G-d, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

Yonah 3:6 For word came to the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

The Gentiles heard the Word, humbled themselves and turned from their wrongs.

Yonah 3:7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

nor beast - it was the Persian custom to use animals in mourning ceremonies.

Yonah 3:8-10 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily to G-d: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. Who can tell if G-d will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not? When G-d saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then G-d relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it. NAS

Again Adonai shows loving kindness and decides not to physically harm them.

Adonai knew their heart and that the repentance was genuine.

Yeshua knows our heart and if our repentance in “HIS Name” is genuine.
