The corresponding letter to this chapter is Shin –Divine, power, provision and protection

Y’hoshua 21:1-3 Then the heads of households of the Levites approached El’azar the priest and Y’hoshua the son of Nun and the heads of households of the tribes of the sons of Israel. And they spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Kena’an (Canaan), saying, "The L-RD commanded through Moshe to give us cities to live in, with their pasture lands for our cattle." So the sons of Israel gave the Levites from their inheritance these cities with their pasturelands, according to the command of the L-RD.

G-d told Moshe to give the Levites 48 cities. Six of them were to be the cities of refuge that we covered in chapter 21.

B’midbar (Numbers) 35:1-8 Now the L-RD spoke to Moshe in the plains of Moab by the Yarden (Jordan) opposite Yericho (Jericho), saying, "Command the sons of Israel that they give to the Levites from the inheritance of their possession, cities to live in; and you shall give to the Levites pasture lands around the cities. And the cities shall be theirs to live in; and their pasturelands shall be for their cattle and for their herds and for all their beasts. "And the pasture lands of the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall extend from the wall of the city outward a thousand cubits around. You shall also measure outside the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits, with the city in the center. This shall become theirs as pasturelands for the cities. And the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the manslayer to flee to; and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities. All the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities, together with their pasture lands. As for the cities which you shall give from the possession of the sons of Israel, you shall take more from the larger and you shall take less from the smaller; each shall give some of his cities to the Levites in proportion to his possession which he inherits."

Y’hoshua 21:4-5 Then the lot came out for the families of the K’hati (Kohathites). And the sons of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, received thirteen cities by lot from the tribe of Y’hudah and from the tribe of the Shim’on (Simeonites) and from the tribe of Binyamin (Benjamin). And the rest of the sons of K’hat (Kohath) received ten cities by lot from the families of the tribe of Efrayim (Ephraim) and from the tribe of Dan and from the half-tribe of M’nasheh (Manasseh).

Y’hoshua 21:6 And the sons of Gershon received thirteen cities by lot from the families of the tribe of Yissakhar (Issachar) and from the tribe of Asher and from the tribe of Naftali (Naphtali) and from the half-tribe of M’nasheh (Manasseh) in Bashan.

Y’hoshua 21:7-11 The sons of M’rari according to their families received twelve cities from the tribe of Reuven and from the tribe of Gad and from the tribe of Z’vulun (Zebulun). Now the sons of Israel gave by lot to the Levites these cities with their pasturelands, as the L-RD had commanded through Moshe. 9 And they gave these cities which are here mentioned by name from the tribe of the sons of Y’hudah and from the tribe of the sons of Shim’on; and they were for the sons of Aaron, one of the families of the K’hati (Kohathites, of the sons of Levi, for the lot was theirs first. 11 Thus they gave them Kiriath-arba, Arba being the father of Anak (that is, Hevron), in the hill country of Y’hudah, with its surrounding pasturelands. 12 But the fields of the city and its villages, they gave to Kalev (Caleb) the son of Y’funeh (Jephunneh) as his possession.

Y’hoshua 21:13-16 So to the sons of Aaron the priest they gave Hevron, the city of refuge for the manslayer, with its pasture lands, and Livnah (Libnah) with its pasture lands, and Yatir (Jattir) with its pasture lands and Esht’moa with its pasture lands, 15 and Holon with its pasture lands and D’vir with its pasture lands, 16 and Ain with its pasture lands and Yutah (Juttah) with its pasture lands and Beit-Shemesh with its pasture lands; nine cities from these two tribes.
