The corresponding letter to this chapter is Tahv – truth; perfection
Y’hoshua 22:1-6 Then Y’hoshua summoned the Re’uveni and the Gadi and the half-tribe of M’nasheh, and said to them, "You have kept all that Moshe the servant of the L-RD commanded you, and have listened to my voice in all that I commanded you. You have not forsaken your brothers these many days to this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of the L-RD your G-d. And now the L-RD your G-d has given rest to your brothers, as He spoke to them; therefore turn now and go to your tents, to the land of your possession, which Moshe the servant of the L-RD gave you beyond the Yarden (Jordan). Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law which Moshe the servant of the L-RD commanded you, to love the L-RD your G-d and walk in all His ways and keep His commandments and hold fast to Him and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul." So Y’hoshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their tents.
The Re’uveni and the Gadi and the half-tribe of M’nasheh had kept their promise to help their brothers conquer the land of Kena’an. Now they were free to return to their families waiting on the east side of the Yarden River and settle in.
B’midbar (Numbers) 32:29-33 And Moshe said to them, "If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuven, everyone who is armed for battle, will cross with you over the Yarden (Jordan) in the presence of the L-RD, and the land will be subdued before you, then you shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession; but if they will not cross over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Kena’an (Canaan). " And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuven answered, saying, "As the L-RD has said to your servants, so we will do. We ourselves will cross over armed in the presence of the L-RD into the land of Kena’an (Canaan), and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us across the Yarden (Jordan)." So Moshe gave to them, to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuven and to the half-tribe of Joseph's son M’nasheh, the kingdom of Sihon, king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og, the king of Bashan, the land with its cities with their territories, the cities of the surrounding land.
Y’hoshua 22:7-12 Now to the one half-tribe of M’nasheh Moshe had given a possession in Bashan, but to the other half Y’hoshua gave a possession among their brothers westward beyond the Yarden (Jordan). So when Y’hoshua sent them away to their tents, he blessed them, and said to them, "Return to your tents with great riches and with very much livestock, with silver, gold, bronze, iron, and with very many clothes; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brothers." And the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of M’nasheh returned home and departed from the sons of Israel at Shiloh which is in the land of Kena’an (Canaan), to go to the land of Gilead, to the land of their possession which they had possessed, according to the command of the L-RD through Moshe. And when they came to the region of the Yarden (Jordan) which is in the land of Kena’an (Canaan), the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of M’nasheh built an altar there by the Yarden (Jordan), a large altar in appearance. And the sons of Israel heard it said, "Look, the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of M’nasheh have built an altar at the frontier of the land of Kena’an (Canaan), in the region of the Yarden (Jordan), on the side belonging to the sons of Israel." And when the sons of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the sons of Israel gathered themselves at Shiloh, to go up against them in war.
Another altar brought suspicion. Interestingly another covenant like the new covenant brings suspicion also.
Y’hoshua 22:13-20 Then the sons of Israel sent to the sons of Reuven and to the sons of Gad and to the half-tribe of M’nasheh, into the land of Gil’ad, Pinchas (Phinehas) the son of El’azar (Eleazar) the priest, and with him ten chiefs, one chief for each father's household from each of the tribes of Israel; and each one of them was the head of his father's household among the thousands of Israel. And they came to the sons of Reuven and to the sons of Gad and to the half-tribe of M’nasheh, to the land of Gil’ad, and they spoke with them saying, "Thus says the whole congregation of the L-RD, 'What is this unfaithful act which you have committed against the G-d of Israel, turning away from following the L-RD this day, by building yourselves an altar, to rebel against the L-RD this day? 'Is not the iniquity of P’or enough for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day, although a plague came on the congregation of the L-RD, that you must turn away this day from following the L-RD? And it will come about if you rebel against the L-RD today, that He will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel tomorrow. 'If, however, the land of your possession is unclean, then cross into the land of the possession of the L-RD, where the Lord's tabernacle stands, and take possession among us. Only do not rebel against the L-RD, or rebel against us by building an altar for yourselves, besides the altar of the L-RD our G-d. 'Did not Achan the son of Zerach act unfaithfully in the things under the ban, and wrath fall on all the congregation of Israel? And that man did not perish alone in his iniquity.' "
They accuse their brothers of doing wrong when there really is no wrong in their heart or actions. This is also typical of those who believe or follow the new covenant. You will receive criticism and wrong judgment for following a better covenant and altar, which is in heaven above. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul?
Mark 8:36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?
The new covenant has better promises!
Hebrews 8:1-9:1 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the L-rd pitched, not man. For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices; so it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer. Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law; who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moshe was warned by G-d when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, "SEE," He says, "THAT YOU MAKE all things ACCORDING TO THE PATTERN WHICH WAS SHOWN YOU ON THE MOUNTAIN." But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, by as much as He is also the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted on better promises. A New Covenant For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion sought for a second. For finding fault with them, He says, "LOOK, DAYS ARE COMING, SAYS THE L-RD, WHEN I WILL EFFECT A NEW COVENANT WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND WITH THE HOUSE OF Y’HUDAH; NOT LIKE THE COVENANT WHICH I MADE WITH THEIR FATHERS ON THE DAY WHEN I TOOK THEM BY THE HAND TO LEAD THEM OUT OF THE LAND OF EGYPT; FOR THEY DID NOT CONTINUE IN MY COVENANT, AND I DID NOT CARE FOR THEM, SAYS THE L-RD. "FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE L-RD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS, AND I WILL WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS. AND I WILL BE THEIR G-D, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE. "AND THEY SHALL NOT TEACH EVERYONE HIS FELLOW CITIZEN, AND EVERYONE HIS BROTHER, SAYING,"KNOW THE L-RD,' FOR ALL WILL KNOW ME, FROM THE LEAST TO THE GREATEST OF THEM. "FOR I WILL BE MERCIFUL TO THEIR INIQUITIES, AND I WILL REMEMBER THEIR SINS NO MORE." When He said, "A new covenant," He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.
Y’hoshua 22:21-29 Then the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of M’nasheh answered, and spoke to the heads of the families of Israel. The Mighty One, G-d, the L-RD, the Mighty One, G-d, the L-RD! He knows, and may Israel itself know. If it was in rebellion, or if in an unfaithful act against the L-RD do not save us this day! "If we have built us an altar to turn away from following the L-RD, or if to offer a burnt offering or grain offering on it, or if to offer sacrifices of peace offerings on it, may the L-RD Himself require it. But truly we have done this out of concern, for a reason, saying, 'In time to come your sons may say to our sons," What have you to do with the L-RD, the G-d of Israel? "For the L-RD has made the Yarden (Jordan) a border between us and you, you sons of Reuven and sons of Gad; you have no portion in the L-RD." So your sons may make our sons stop fearing the L-RD.' "Therefore we said, 'Let us build an altar, not for burnt offering or for sacrifice; rather it shall be a witness between us and you and between our generations after us, that we are to perform the service of the L-RD before Him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings, that your sons may not say to our sons in time to come, "You have no portion in the L-RD."' "Therefore we said, 'It shall also come about if they say this to us or to our generations in time to come, then we shall say," See the copy of the altar of the L-RD which our fathers made, not for burnt offering or for sacrifice; rather it is a witness between us and you. "' "Far be it from us that we should rebel against the L-RD and turn away from following the L-RD this day, by building an altar for burnt offering, for grain offering or for sacrifice, besides the altar of the L-RD our G-d which is before His tabernacle."
It was not an alter for burnt offering or for sacrifice. It was a reminder (a witness). In the same way the burnt offering and animal sacrifices were only a type and witness that points to the one above. Yeshua offering himself to the Father above.
Yochanan (John) 20:16-17 Yeshua said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to Him "Rabboni!" . Yeshua said to her, "Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren, and say to them, 'I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My G-d and your G-d.'"
Hebrews 8:1-5 Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary, and in the true tabernacle, which the L-rd pitched, not man. For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices; hence it is necessary that this high priest also have something to offer. Now if He were on earth, He would not be a priest at all, since there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law; who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moshe was warned by G-d when he was about to erect the tabernacle; for, "See," He says, "that you make all things according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain."
Hebrews 9:11-15 But Messiah having come a high priest of the good things to come, through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation, nor yet through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, entered in once for all into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling them that have been defiled, sanctify unto the cleanness of the flesh: how much more shall the blood of Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to G-d, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living G-d? And for this cause he is the mediator of a new covenant, that a death having taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first covenant, they that have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.
Y’hoshua 22:30-34 So when Pinchas (Phinehas) the priest and the leaders of the congregation, even the heads of the families of Israel who were with him, heard the words which the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the sons of M’nasheh spoke, it pleased them. And Pinchas (Phinehas) the son of El’azar (Eleazar) the priest said to the sons of Reuven and to the sons of Gad and to the sons of M’nasheh, "Today we know that the L-RD is in our midst, because you have not committed this unfaithful act against the L-RD; now you have delivered the sons of Israel from the hand of the L-RD." Then Pinchas (Phinehas) the son of El’azar the priest and the leaders returned from the sons of Reuven and from the sons of Gad, from the land of Gilead, to the land of Kena’an (Canaan), to the sons of Israel, and brought back word to them. And the word pleased the sons of Israel, and the sons of Israel blessed G-d; and they did not speak of going up against them in war, to destroy the land in which the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad were living. And the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad called the altar Witness; "For," they said, "it is a witness between us that the L-RD is G-d."
In the end, the altar of Witness was seen as a good thing and brought about unity.
In the end, the altar in heaven will be seen as a good thing and truth in unity between all tribes, tongues, people and nations on the earth.
Revelation 5:5-14 and one of the elders said to me, "Stop weeping; look, the Lion that is from the tribe of Y’hudah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals." And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of G-d, sent out into all the earth. And He came, and He took it out of the right hand of Him who sat on the throne. And when He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, having each one a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song, saying, "Worthy are you to take the book, and to break its seals; for you were slain, and did purchase for G-d with your blood men from EVERY TRIBE and TONGUE and PEOPLE and NATION. "And You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to our G-d; and they will reign upon the earth." And I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing." And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying, "To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever." And the four living creatures kept saying, "Amen." And the elders fell down and worshiped.
In this unity those who are Jewish do not stop being Jewish just because we accept Yeshua, who is, after all, from the line of Y’hudah. The Jewish person becomes a complete Jew when they come to Yeshua. The Gentile is grafted in and a Jew spiritually. In the view point of HaShem and His word, nobody can say to any Gentile who has been grafted in, “What have you to do with the L-rd, the G-d of Israel? Even though He is far away or from another nation!
Romans 11:17-18 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.
Yochanan (John) 4:20-24 "Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Yerushalayim (Jerusalem) is the place where men ought to worship." Yeshua said to her, "Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Yerushalayim, shall you worship the Father. "You worship that which you do not know; we worship that which we know, for salvation is from the Jews. "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. "G-d is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and TRUTH."
