First John Chapter 3 (Continued)

1 John 3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

Jealousy and hate can do this to a person.

Cain made an outward appearance of faith when he made an offering of “the fruit of the ground”. However, G-d requires a blood sacrifice for the atonement of sin. Cain’s heart was not right. We can do mitzvah’s but without the required blood sacrifice we are like Cain in the eyes of G-d.

1 John 3:13 -14 Marvel not, my brothers, if the world hate you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. He that loves not his brother abides in death.

True believers in Yeshua, are children of G-d. This makes us brothers and sisters in Yeshua HaMashiach. There is not difference between a Jewish believer in Yeshua and a Gentile believer in Yeshua. We are all in the family of G-d.

If you are hated by the “world” this is an indication that you are truly “born again” born in to the family of G-d. You have passed from spiritual death to eternal life.

When someone in the USA has been given the death penalty and they are in their final minutes of life walking to the place of execution, they are referred to as: “DEAD MAN WALKING”. We ALL start out life as DEAD MEN (AND WOMEN) WALKING. It doesn’t matter if you are Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist, Catholic or Protestant. We all start out life spiritually dead and are children of the devil. We are on our way to eternal separation from G-d.

1 John 3:15 Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: (Cf: Matt 5:21) and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. If you have hatred in you heart for another you are a murderer.

Does this mean there are no murders in heaven? Again does this balance with other scripture? Yeshua died for all our sins. However, once we are a new creature we will hate no longer.

1 John 3:16 This is how we know what love is: Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ) laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

This is a good time to mention the meaning of the third letter “Gimel” - loving kindness; culmination, planting a seed and caring for it until it matures.

Imagine being that DEAD MAN WALKING for this is what we truly are. Imagine being taken to the place of execution. Then just as they were about to end your life, the judge who sentenced you to death appears and orders your release and takes your place instead.

You have a choice. Stay strapped in the electric chair and wait for them to throw the switch. Or accept what Yeshua already did in your place.

He was not a human sacrifice placed on an altar. He took your place on the execution stake. He took your punishment. He bore your sins. The price has been paid. All you need to do is accept it.

1 John 3:17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of G-d be in him?

If we love G-d it should be illustrated in our lives.

1 John 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Talk is cheap - don’t just say I’ll pray for you when someone is in need of groceries and can’t afford to buy them. Take them a meal or buy them a bag of groceries.

1 John 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and will assure our hearts before Him.

It is possible to be ashamed for our lives when He returns.

1 John 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, G-d is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

If we are one who comes before G-d with nothing to offer we still cannot lose our eternal salvation. The New Covenant was, is and always will be unconditional!! What G-d did is our salvation forever. Not what we did. He is greater. He knows all that we do for Him and will do for Him.

1 John 3:21 Beloved, if our hearts do not condemn us, then have we confidence toward G-d.

If we are living for the L-rd, still our confidence is in what G-d did for eternal salvation.

1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of Him, because we keep His commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

Faith without works is dead. We still have a loving relationship and want to follow Him, His word and His example.

1 John 3:23 And this is His commandment, That we should believe on the name of His Son Yeshua HaMashiach (Jesus Christ), and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

The Father commanded the Son to come and we were commanded to listen to Him and believe.

1 John 3:24 And he that keeps His commandments dwells in Him, and He in him. And hereby we know that He abides in us, by Ruach HaKodesh (the Spirit), which He has given us.

Ruach HaKodesh leads us in how to follow G-d in love.
