Matthew Chapter 17

Matt 17:1-2 And after six days Yeshua (Jesus) took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up on to a high mountain by themselves, And was transfigured before them: and His face did shine as the sun, and His raiment was white as the light.

His face shone as the sun. Does this remind you of anyone? The face of Moshe, when he came down from Mt. Sinai also shone.

The Leviticus section of Matthew ends here. We also get a whole view of the kingdom.

Could there be a higher understanding to the expression “after six days” (Six Thousand Years)?

2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the L-rd as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Is this a hint that Yeshua will return some time at the beginning of this Millennium? I hope so.

Matt 17:3-4 And, behold, there appeared to them Moshe and Elijah talking with Him. Then Peter said to Yeshua (Jesus), L-rd, it is good for us to be here: if you will, let us make here three tabernacles; one for you, and one for Moshe, and one for Elijah.

Understandably Peter got a little carried away and spoke wrongly. We do not make a tabernacle for anyone but G-d. Here we have on a higher level of understanding, Moshe whom represented the instructions, Elijah who represented the prophets, and Yeshua who represents the New covenant.

The Seventeenth letter of the Hebrew Alpha Bet is Peh - mouth.

Matt 17:5 While he yet spoke, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; you hear Him.

They hear the voice of the Father declaring that Yeshua is the Son of G-d and they are told to listen to Him.

Moshe and Elijah along with G-d the Father are endorsing Yeshua’s ministry.

Matt 17:6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were terrified.

They realized that they were in the very presence of G-d. Immediately they fell before Him in worship.

Matt 17:7-8 And (Yeshua) Jesus came and touched them, and said, arise, and do be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, except Yeshua (Jesus).

Matt 17:9-13 And as they came down from the mountain, Yeshua (Jesus) charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead. And His disciples asked Him, saying, why then do the scribes say that Elijah must first come? And Yeshua (Jesus) answered and said to them, Elijah truly will first come, and restore all things. But I say to you, That Elijah has come already, and they knew him not, but have done to him whatsoever they wished. Likewise will also the Son of man suffer at their hands. Then the disciples understood that He spoke to them of John the Immerser (Baptist).

Malachi 4:5-6 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the L-RD: And he will turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

John the Immerser came in the Spirit of Elijah. We studied this when we covered chapter 3.

Elijah will come again during the tribulation period as one of the two witnesses.

Matt 17:14-16 When they came to the crowd, a man approached Yeshua (Jesus) and knelt before him. "L-rd, have mercy on my son," he said. "He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him."

Some sickness is the result of demon possession. This is the case here.

Matt 17:17-18 O unbelieving and perverse generation," Yeshua (Jesus) replied, "how long will I stay with you? How long will I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me." Yeshua (Jesus) rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.

HaSatan, the prince of the demons, and all demons are subject to Yeshua. They must obey Him.
