Matthew Chapter 25

This chapter is a continuation of the discussion of chapter 24 in which Yeshua is answering questions about the end of the age and His return.

Matt 25:1-6 Then will the kingdom of heaven be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. The foolish ones took their lamps, but took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep. "At midnight the cry rang out: `Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'

The ten virgins are not marrying the bridegroom but are “bridesmaids”. They represent Israel.

The Peshitta translation of the verse above states that the virgins went out to meet the bridegroom “and the bride”.

Matt 23:39 For I say to you, You will not see me again, until you will say, Blessed is He that comes in the name of the L-rd.

Matt 25:7-13 Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil; for our lamps are going out. But the wise answered, saying, "`No,' they replied, `there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.' And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. "Later the others also came. `Sir! Sir!' they said. `Open the door for us!' "But he replied, `I tell you the truth, I don't know you.' Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man comes.

They are told to watch

Some declare this to be believers of today. It is not.

The bridegroom is coming from the wedding above to the marriage supper of the lamb on earth. We, the believers who make up the bride, return to earth with Him. The event in the above passage then takes place on earth after the Great Tribulation.

Five wise virgins with oil had finally become genuine believers and were finally ready.

Five foolish - false sheep and hypocrites. Oil is symbolic of the anointed or following the Spirit. The lamps have no oil. They do not have Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit).

There are still many false believers or wolves in sheep’s clothing that the L-rd does not know and will also say to them. I never knew you. Imagine what a shock this will be. You think you knew the L-rd and even thought you did many things for Him and to find that you where mistaken. This is why it is important to make sure you truly know Him now and to tell others the truth. Some may not want to listen but it is better for them to learn it now then to find out later and it is too late. It is sad but true that even many leaders and professed teachers of Yeshua (Jesus) and different so-called Messiah’s will find themselves outside the door and shut out.

We also discussed this in our study on John chapter 14.

Matt 25:14-21 For the KINGDOM OF HEAVEN is as a man traveling into a far country, which called his own servants, and delivered to them his goods. And to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. But he that had received one went and dug in the earth, and hid his lord's money. After a long time the lord of those servants comes, and reckons with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou delivered to me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: You have been FAITHFUL over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: you enter into the joy of your lord.

A talent - about 75 pounds (34 kilograms) for a common talent, and about 150 pounds for a royal talent.

This man was giving his servants “talents of money” this is not a 5 pound bag of $50.00 dollar bills but rather some sort of precious metal such as gold or silver.

FAITHFULNESS is what is commended.

This is talking about serving the KINGDOM ABOVE. It may be by expanding that Kingdom by declaring “HIS MERCY” and “LOVING KINDNESS” or by serving those that are in eternal life (that is all believers) with whatever talents or gifts you have. Do not hide His mercy of the good news or hide from being the salt of the earth.

Matt 25:22-23 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, you deliver to me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. His lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you has been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: Enter into the joy of your lord.
