Revelation Chapter 20

Revelation 20:1-3 "And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season." (KJV)

What a happy day this will be!!! Satan will be bound and thrown into the "Bottomless pit". This seems to be another name for hell. Remember Hell is the temporary holding place for the lost. Satan is out of the picture for 1,000 years. He is not able to deceive the nations for this entire time. This 1,000-year period in known as the Millennium. This is when Y'shua will reign from Jerusalem.

Another important note: Many believe that Satan is in Hell now. NOTHING could be further from the truth. Until Revelation 20:1-3 is fulfilled Satan has never and will never set foot in Hell. Right now he is known as the god of this world

2 Cor 4:4 "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ (Y'shua), who is the image of G-d, should shine unto them." (KJV)

Note: Rev 20:3 states that he MUST be set free for a short time. See notes on verse 7.

Revelation 20:4-6 "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Y'shua (Jesus), and for the word of G-d, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Mashiach (Christ) a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of G-d and of Mashiach (Christ), and shall reign with him a thousand years." (KJV)

Here we see that believers will reign with Y'shua. This looks like those who become believers during the Tribulation period, notice they are beheaded for their testimony, they did not worship the beast (Anti-Messiah) or receive the Mark of the Beast. It is possible that the believers from the Tanakh period and the "Church" age are also ruling with him.

This is the 1st resurrection. Here we see the believers who have not already received their bodies at the rapture. This would be the Tanakh believers and well as the Tribulation believers.

The Resurrections

To properly understand the Resurrections

We need to look at a couple of groups of people and what happens to each group.

The church (Believers from Pentecost until the Rapture) - At the Rapture only "the church " receives their glorified bodies. The "dead in Christ (Y'shua)" will receive their glorified bodies moments before those of us who are still alive receive our glorified bodies. NOTE: the term "in Christ". The rapture is only for "the church". We are the only ones who receive our glorified bodies at the rapture. (1Thess. 4:16-17)

Tribulation believers - After the tribulation the believers from the tribulation are resurrected.

Rev 20:4-5 "And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus(Y'shua), and for the word of G-d, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. (KJV)

They are in the first resurrection. They are blessed because they do not experience the second death "The Lake of Fire".

Tanakh Believers (Believers from Adam and Eve until Pentecost) In looking through our commentaries the Bible Scholars are at odds when they receive their glorified bodies. Some believe they will receive them after the tribulation and others believe they must wait until after the millennium. We can't think of a good reason why they should have to wait another 1000 years.

Millennium Believers - (Believer from Y'shua's Millennial Reign.) Not really sure when these believers receive their glorified bodies. It might happen if they die or at the end of the 1000 years.

The second resurrection (or second death) will be all of the unbelievers from Adam and Eve until the end of Y'shua's reign. They are described in Rev 20:5-6 "but the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished " (KJV) they will face the "Great White Throne" judgment.

In Dan 12:2 "And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." (KJV)

is referring to the first and second resurrection in Revelation 20, not the Rapture.
