Revelation Chapter 6

Chapter 6 covers the first 6 seals. There are a total of 7 seals.

Y'shua opens each of the seals.

Seal 1 A white horse

Revelation 6:1-2 "And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer." (KJV)

The 1st Living Creature invites John to "Come and See". The rider on the white horse is the "anti-Christ" or "anti-Messiah". He has a bow but no arrows symbolizing a bloodless victory. He wears a victor's crown. He will be some sort of political ruler. In Biblical times a conqueror would ride a white horse. The anti- Messiah is a counterfeit. As we study him we will see that he imitates Y'shua. Y'shua will ride a white horse when He returns to earth in Rev 19:11. The anti- Messiah will show up at the beginning of the seven-year tribulation period and appear to be a man of peace. He will get the nations to sign a peace treaty with Israel. After 3 1/2 years he will break the treaty. (Dan 9:24-27)

(Compare with Matt 24:4)

Seal 2 A red horse

Revelation 6:3-4 "And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword." (KJV)

The 2nd Living Creature invites John to "Come and See". This rider is granted the ability to take peace from the earth. This is war. Red speaks of the bloodshed. There is no indication how large of a war this will be or were it will be located.

(Compare with Matt 24:6-7)

Seal 3 A black horse

Revelation 6:5-6 "And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine." (KJV)

The 3rd Living Creature invites John to "Come and See". This rider has a pair of scales in his hand.

Rev 6:6 "A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine." (NAS)

A denarius was a day's wage. A quart of wheat is approximately one meal and 3 quarts of barley is approximately 3 meals. (Barley is not as expensive as wheat) We are being told that the people will work all day to earn enough money to just eat. They will have no extra money to by other things.

This is famine. Famine often follows after a war. Life will be reduced to the barest necessities.

(Compare with Matt 24:7)

Seal 4 A pale green horse

Revelation 6:7-8 "And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth." (KJV)

The 4th Living Creature invites John to "Come and See". The rider is named "death" and his partner is "hell".

They are given authority to kill 1/4 of the world's population. This is mind-boggling. This is from just one of the seals. We have no idea how many will die from the war in the 2nd seal, or the famine in the 3rd seal.

They will die by war, famine, pestilence, and the wild beasts of the earth. There are so many pestilences (diseases) out there it is not hard to imagine one or more of these becoming a serious epidemic.

The "wild beasts of the earth" is interesting too. Do you think wild animals will find their way into the big cities to attack mankind or do you think this would be limited to rural areas? Perhaps they will only prey on those sick and dieing from the war, famine, and pestilences.

Hell follows death. This is very sad, but true, because after the rapture all the people left will be unbelievers. There are people who become believers during this time. The next seal will show us some of them.

(Compare with Matt 24: 7)
