Sh知u弾l Alef (1 Samuel) Chapter 13

The corresponding Hebrew letter to this chapter is Mem- revelation; revealed and concealed.

Sh知u弾l Alef 13:1-2 Sha置l was forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-two years over Israel. Now Sha置l chose for himself 3,000 men of Israel, of which 2,000 were with Sha置l in Mikhmas and in the hill country of Beit-El, while 1,000 were with Y檀onatan at Giv誕t of Binyamin. But he sent away the rest of the people, each to his tent.

Sha置l maintains a small permanent army and the rest of the men are in the army reserves so to speak. They are only involved in the army when the standing army needs addition manpower.

Sh知u弾l Alef 13:3-4 And Y檀onatan smote the garrison of the P値ishtim that was in Geva, and the P値ishtim heard of it. Then Sha置l blew the trumpet throughout the land, saying, "Let the Hebrews hear." And all Israel heard the news that Sha置l had smitten the garrison of the P値ishtim, and also that Israel had become odious to the P値ishtim. The people were then summoned to Sha置l at Gilgal.

Because Y檀onatan has attacked the P値ishtim, the Israelites knew that they would retaliate and then began to prepare for the conflict.

Sh知u弾l Alef 13:5-7 Now the P値ishtim assembled to fight with Israel, 30,000 chariots and 6,000 horsemen, and people like the sand which is on the seashore in abundance; and they came up and camped in Mikhmas, east of Beit-Aven. When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were hard-pressed), then the people hid themselves in caves, in thickets, in cliffs, in cellars, and in pits. Also some of the Hebrews crossed the Yarden into the land of Gad and Gilead. But as for Sha置l, he was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.

The Israelites are outnumbered and they are fleeing and hiding from what they believe will be a major defeat with the P値ishtim.

Sh知u弾l Alef 13:8-12 Now he waited seven days, according to the appointed time set by Sh知uel, but Sh知uel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattering from him. So Sha置l said, "Bring to me the burnt offering and the peace offerings." And he offered the burnt offering. And it came about as soon as he finished offering the burnt offering, that look, Sh知uel came; and Sha置l went out to meet him and to greet him. But Sh知uel said, "What have you done?" And Sha置l said, "Because I saw that the people were scattering from me, and that you did not come within the appointed days, and that the P値ishtim were assembling at Mikhmas, therefore I said,' Now the P値ishtim will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not asked the favor of the L-RD.' So I forced myself and offered the burnt offering. "

Sh知uel, not Sha置l, was to offer the sacrifice. Sha置l was to wait for Sh知uel arrival. The offices of PROPHET, PRIEST, and KING were separate for a reason. It was not wise for a sinful man to hold all three offices. In the future, Yeshua, who is the perfect son of G-d, will hold all three offices.

Sh知u弾l Alef 13:13-14 And Sh知uel said to Sha置l, "You have acted foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the L-RD your G-d, which He commanded you, for now the L-RD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not endure. The L-RD has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart, and the L-RD has appointed him as ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the L-RD commanded you."

A man after His own heart One who wants what is not just good for his image but is concerned with what G-d wants and is concerned with how to please G-d. It is hidden here but we know this is David, who is another type of Yeshua HaMashiach. Yeshua is also a son and L-rd of David. This was also hidden but is now revealed.

Psalm 110 The L-RD says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand, Until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." The L-RD will stretch forth your strong scepter from Zion, saying, "Rule in the midst of your enemies." Your people will volunteer freely in the day of your power; in holy array, from the womb of the dawn, youth are to you as the dew. The L-RD has sworn and will not change His mind; "You art a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek." The L-rd is at your right hand; He will shatter kings in the day of His wrath. He will judge among the nations, He will fill them with corpses, He will shatter the chief men over a broad country. He will drink from the brook by the wayside; Therefore He will lift up His head.

Sh知u弾l Alef 13:15-18 Then Sh知uel arose and went up from Gilgal to Giv誕t of Binyamin. And Sha置l numbered the people who were present with him, about six hundred men. Now Sha置l and his son Y檀onatan and the people who were present with them were staying in Geva of Binyamin while the P値ishtim camped at Mikhmas. And the raiders came from the camp of the P値ishtim in three companies: one company turned toward Ofrah, to the land of Shu誕l, and another company turned toward Beit-Horon, and another company turned toward the border which overlooks the Vadi of Tzvo段m toward the wilderness.

The P値ishtim greatly outnumber the Israelites. They have 3 companies of soldiers and Israel only has a handful of soldiers left.

Sh知u弾l Alef 13:19-23 Now no blacksmith could be found in all the land of Israel, for the P値ishtim said, "Lest the Hebrews make swords or spears." So all Israel went down to the P値ishtim, each to sharpen his plowshare, his mattock, his axe, and his hoe. And the charge was two-thirds of a shekel for the plowshares, the mattocks, the forks, and the axes, and to fix the hoes. So it came about on the day of battle that neither sword nor spear was found in the hands of any of the people who were with Sha置l and Y檀onatan, but they were found with Sha置l and his son Y檀onatan. And the garrison of the P値ishtim went out to the pass of Mikhmas.

You never want to be in the position to have to go to your enemies for military supplies. Israel is at an extreme disadvantage because they cannot manufacture their own weapons.

In contrast, during the Millennium reign of Yeshua HaMashiach they will hammer their sword into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks.

Isaiah 2:4 And He will judge between the nations, And will render decisions for many peoples; and they will hammer their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, and never again will they learn war.

Now that is a happy thought!:~)
