Sh知u弾l Alef (1 Samuel) Chapter 26

The corresponding letter to this chapter is Dalet- door;way

Sh知u弾l Alef 26:1-4 Then the Zifites came to Sha置l at Giv誕h, saying, "Is not David hiding on the hill of Hakhilah, which is before Yeshimon?" So Sha置l arose and went down to the wilderness of Zif, having with him three thousand chosen men of Israel, to search for David in the wilderness of Zif. And Sha置l camped in the hill of Hakhilah, which is before Yeshimon, beside the road, and David was staying in the wilderness. When he saw that Sha置l came after him into the wilderness, David sent out spies, and he knew that Sha置l was definitely coming.

Once again Sha置l is out to kill David. Hunting him down like a wild animal.

Sh知u弾l Alef 26:5-9 David then arose and came to the place where Sha置l had camped. And David saw the place where Sha置l lay, and Avner the son of Ner, the commander of his army; and Sha置l was lying in the circle of the camp, and the people were camped around him. Then David answered and said to Achimelekh the Hittite and to Avishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab's brother, saying, "Who will go down with me to Sha置l in the camp?" And Avishai said, "I will go down with you." So David and Avishai came to the people by night, and look, Sha置l lay sleeping inside the circle of the camp, with his spear stuck in the ground at his head; and Avner and the people were lying around him. Then Avishai said to David, "Today G-d has delivered your enemy into your hand; now therefore, please let me strike him with the spear to the ground with one stroke, and I will not strike him the second time." But David said to Avishai, "Do not destroy him, for who can stretch out his hand against the L-rd's anointed and be without guilt?"

Yeshua the L-rd痴 anointed was struck down to show us the door and way to eternal life.

Sha置l, himself, anointed, was a type of Messiah (anointed). The connotation of getting pierced by a spear was a foreshadowing of a spear going through the coming Messiah (anointed) Yeshua. It does not matter if he was actually pierced or not. In contrast, David does not pierce the anointed one because of his respect for G-d痴 choice, unlike those who actually pierced Yeshua HaMashiach. Sha置l did not succeed in piercing David with a spear either, but not from lack of trying. It did not matter there either if David was pierced or not. The type does not have to be exactly the same. David is also a type of Messiah. The Messiah Yeshua would eventually come from his bloodline. Yeshua is the lamb of G-d, because He would die in our place for our sins. The lamb sacrifice points to Yeshua. The animal was sacrificed on an altar after having its entrails removed. Yeshua, the lamb of G-d, did not actually have to be burnt on an altar or that his entrails removed, etc to be a sacrifice. Many times it can be just a subtle picture.

Yochanan (John) 19:33-37but coming to Yeshua, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs; but one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately there came out blood and water. And he who has seen has borne witness, and his witness is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. For these things came to pass, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, "Not a bone of Him shall be broken." And again another Scripture says, "They shall look on Him whom they pierced."

Sh知u弾l Alef 26:10-12 David also said, "As the L-RD lives, surely the L-RD will strike him, or his day will come that he dies, or he will go down into battle and perish. The L-RD forbid that I should stretch out my hand against the L-rd's anointed; but now please take the spear that is at his head and the jug of water, and let us go." So David took the spear and the jug of water from beside Sha置l's head, and they went away, but no one saw or knew it, nor did any awake, for they were all asleep, because a sound sleep from the L-RD had fallen on them.

It is a serious business to go against one who has been appointed by G-d. This applies to men that G-d has placed in authority over us in our local congregations.

Sh知u弾l Alef 26:13-16 Then David crossed over to the other side, and stood on top of the mountain at a distance with a large area between them. And David called to the people and to Avner the son of Ner, saying, "Will you not answer, Avner?" Then Avner answered and said, "Who are you who calls to the king?" So David said to Avner, "Are you not a man? And who is like you in Israel? Why then have you not guarded your lord the king? For one of the people came to destroy the king your lord. This thing that you have done is not good. As the L-RD lives, all of you must surely die, because you did not guard your lord, the L-rd's anointed. And now, see where the king's spear is, and the jug of water that was at his head."

Avner was asleep at his post. He deserved the death penalty for not doing his job and protecting his king. What and embarrassment it must have been to have the 兎nemy of the king seek into the camp and carry off proof that he could have taken the kings life.

Sh知u弾l Alef 26:17-20 Then Sha置l recognized David's voice and said, "Is this your voice, my son David?" And David said, "It is my voice, my lord the king." He also said, "Why then is my lord pursuing his servant? For what have I done? Or what evil is in my hand? "Now therefore, please let my lord the king listen to the words of his servant. If the L-RD has stirred you up against me, let Him accept an offering; but if it is men, cursed are they before the L-RD, for they have driven me out today that I should have no attachment with the inheritance of the L-RD, saying, 'Go, serve other gods.' "Now then, do not let my blood fall to the ground away from the presence of the L-RD; for the king of Israel has come out to search for a single flea, just as one hunts a partridge in the mountains."

David once again reminds Sh誕ul that he is not the kingd enemy and that Saul is pursuing him with out cause.

Sh知u弾l Alef 26:21-23 Then Sha置l said, "I have sinned. Return, my son David, for I will not harm you again because my life was precious in your sight this day. Look, I have played the fool and have committed a serious error." And David answered and said, "Look the spear of the king! Now let one of the young men come over and take it. And the L-RD will repay each man for his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the L-RD delivered you into my hand today, but I refused to stretch out my hand against the L-rd's anointed.

Once again Sha置l admits he is wrong in hunting down David. Time will tell if he is serious or not.

David again had respect for G-d痴 choice. Do you have respect for G-d痴 anointed, Yeshua, the son of David? Or are you conspiring against him? If you are, you are committing a serious error that is the way of darkness.

Yochanan (John) 12:44-50 And Yeshua cried out and said, "He who believes in Me does not believe in Me, but in Him who sent Me. "And he who look to Me looks to the One who sent Me. "I have come as light into the world, that everyone who believes in Me may not remain in darkness. "And if anyone hears My sayings, and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. "He who rejects Me, and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day. "For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me commandment, what to say, and what to speak. "And I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me."

Sh知u弾l Alef 26:24-25 Now look, as your life was highly valued in my sight this day, so may my life be highly valued in the sight of the L-RD, and may He deliver me from all distress." Then Sha置l said to David, "Blessed are you, my son David; you will both accomplish much and surely prevail." So David went on his way, and Sha置l returned to his place.

Notice David does not rush back to live in Jerusalem or anywhere else that Sha置l could easily take him.
