SH'MU'EL BET (2 Samuel) Chapter 6

The cooresponding letter to this chapter is Vav- hook; redemption and transformation. Stands for man created on the sixth day, etc.

Sh’mu’el Bet 6:1-2 Now David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. And David arose and went with all the people who were with him to Ba’alei-Y’hudah, to bring up from there the ark of G-d which is called by the Name, the very name of the Adonai-Tzva’ot (L-RD of hosts) who is enthroned above the k’ruvim (cherubim).

D’varim (Deuteronomy) 12:5 But you shall seek the L-rd at the place which the L-RD your G-d shall choose from all your tribes, to establish His name there for His dwelling, and there you shall come.

Host can mean human bodies, celestial and heavenly bodies. Enthroned above the cherubim. (see Ezekiel 1) The G-dhead appears in human form. The Messiah is the representative of the fullness of the G-dhead. The human appearance is a prelude to the incarnation of the Messiah in His many roles. This is who the judges pointed to, like Samson who was not only a judge but also a savior of his people –There were also two other types of judges who also point to other roles of the Messiah; a judge that was a PRIESTLY role, which was played out by Eli. The other judge is a PROPHETIC one, which was played out by Samuel who was a spiritual leader. They all pointed to our Messiah Yeshua who will be King. This is whom the Kings pointed to, like David, who was not only King but also a physical savior also. We must also remember the ark also points toward him in our study on the ark.

Sh’mu’el Bet 6:3-7 And they placed the ark of G-d on a new cart that they might bring it from the house of Avinadav which was on the hill; and Uzah and Achyo, the sons of Avinadav, were leading the new cart. So they brought it with the ark of G-d from the house of Avinadav, which was on the hill; and Achyo was walking ahead of the ark. Meanwhile, David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the L-RD with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, and with lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets and cymbals. But when they came to the threshing floor of Nakhon, Uzah reached out toward the ark of G-d and took hold of it, for the oxen nearly upset it. And the anger of the L-RD burned against Uzah, and G-d struck him down there for his irreverence; and he died there by the ark of G-d.

This was a day for celebrating – the Ark was were G-d dwelt among His people and it was finally going to Yerushalayim.

Sh’mu’el Bet 6:8-10 And David became displeased because of the L-rd's outburst against Uzah, and that place is called Peretz-Uzah (break of Uzah) to this day. So David was afraid of the L-RD that day; and he said, "How can the ark of the L-RD come to me?" And David was unwilling to move the ark of the L-RD into the city of David with him; but David took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gitti.

The Law was not to touch the ark. It did not matter if Uzah intentions were good. We must respect what the L-rd G-d requires.

Sh’mu’el Bet 6:11-12 Thus the ark of the L-RD remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gitti three months, and the L-RD blessed Obed-Edom and all his household. Now it was told King David, saying, "The L-RD has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, on account of the ark of G-d." And David went and brought up the ark of G-d from the house of Obed-Edom into the city of David with gladness. I can understand David’s apprehension to move the ark after Uzah’s death. But here only three months later we see David continuing to transport the Ark to the city of David.

Sh’mu’el Bet 6:13-16 And so it was, that when the bearers of the ark of the L-RD had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fatling. And David was dancing before the L-RD with all his might, and David was wearing a linen ephod. So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the L-RD with shouting and the sound of the trumpet. Then it happened, as the ark of the L-RD came into the city of David that Mikhal the daughter of Sha’ul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the L-RD; and she despised him in her heart.

We should rejoice not only with our minds but also with our heart, our body, and our soul. David rejoiced with his whole heart and body that the L-rd G-d is back among his people and for their deliverance.

Sh’mu’el Bet 6:17-20 So they brought in the ark of the L-RD and set it in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the L-RD. And when David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offering, he blessed the people in the name of the L-RD of hosts. Further, he distributed to all the people, to all the multitude of Israel, both to men and women, a cake of bread and one of dates and one of raisins to each one. Then all the people departed each to his house. But when David returned to bless his household, Mikhal the daughter of Sha’ul came out to meet David and said, "How the king of Israel distinguished himself today! He uncovered himself today in the eyes of his servants' maids as one of the foolish ones shamelessly uncovers himself!"

David was only wearing a linen ephod and dancing before the L-rd. . To see David in this display with only a linen ephod embarrassed her pride. Dancing with a tambourine after returning from war was customarily done by the women and should have actually been done by Mikhal herself. David’s eyes were not concerned about himself because they were looking to the L-rd. Well the L-rd is more concerned with the condition of our heart than the condition of our wardrobe. What matters is David was following the spirit and the will of the L-rd and rejoicing in it. The more we look to the L-rd the less we are concerned about how we look to others. He also had blessed David and David would no longer have to stray around in the wilderness as an outcast. He was free. He had supplied all of David’s needs and was willing to give David all he wanted and more. Those in Messiah are also given beyond all that we ask or think.

Ephesians 3:14-21 For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man; so that Messiah may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Messiah which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of G-d. Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the body of believers and in Yeshua HaMashiach to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

He had waited a long time in hidding before his rule began. Yeshua too would be hidden on the right hand of the father above for quite awhile until he returns and rules in Israel. Yeshua also was doing the will of the Father without wearing any clothes to cover him up.

Mark 15:24-25 And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them, to decide what each should take. And it was the third hour when they crucified Him.

We must also look to a higher meaning in that when we come to the Father we are naked unless we are clothed in Yeshua HaMashiach.

2 Corinthians 5:1-5 For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from G-d, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven; inasmuch as we, having put it on, shall not be found naked. For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed, but to be clothed, in order that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is G-d, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge.

Galatians 3:26-27 For you are all sons of G-d through faith in Yeshua HaMashiach. For all of you who were immersed into Messiah have clothed yourselves with Messiah.

Sh’mu’el Bet 6:21 And David said unto Mikhal, It was before the L-RD, which chose me before your father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the L-RD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the L-RD.

David also delivered this psalm to thank the L-rd.

Divrei-hayamim Alf (1 Chronicles) 16:7-37 Then on that day David first assigned Asaph and his relatives to give thanks to the L-RD. Oh give thanks to the L-RD, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders. Glory in His holy name; Let the heart of those who seek the L-RD be glad. Seek the L-RD and His strength; seek His face continually. Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done, His marvels and the judgments from His mouth, O seed of Israel His servant, Sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! He is the L-RD our G-d; His judgments are in all the earth. Remember His covenant forever, the word which He commanded to a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. He also confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant, Saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan, as the portion of your inheritance." When they were only a few in number, Very few, and strangers in it, And they wandered about from nation to nation, And from one kingdom to another people, He permitted no man to oppress them, And He reproved kings for their sakes, saying, "Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm." Sing to the L-RD, all the earth; proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. For great is the L-RD, and greatly to be praised; He also is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the L-RD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and joy are in His place. Ascribe to the L-RD, O families of the peoples, Ascribe to the L-RD glory and strength. Ascribe to the L-RD the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come before Him; Worship the L-RD in holy array. Tremble before Him, all the earth; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; and let them say among the nations, "The L-RD reigns." Let the sea roar, and all it contains; Let the field exult, and all that is in it. Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before the L-RD; For He is coming to judge the earth. O give thanks to the L-RD, for He is good; For His loving-kindness is everlasting. Then say, "Save us, O G-d of our salvation, and gather us and deliver us from the nations, To give thanks to Thy holy name, And glory in your praise." Blessed be the L-RD, the G-d of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. Then all the people said, "Amen," and praised the L-RD.

Sh’mu’el Bet 6:22-23 And I will yet be more vile than this, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which you have spoken of, of them shall I be had in honor. Therefore Mikhal the daughter of Sha’ul had no children to the day of her death.

David would be humble in his own eyes and lets others honor him.

as Yeshua also said, when I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing.

Yochanan (John) 8:53-55 "Surely You are not greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be?" Yeshua answered, "If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, 'He is our G-d'; and you have not come to know Him, but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I shall be a liar like you, but I do know Him, and keep His word.

Had no children – This is a hard thing for a woman to endure. In that culture it would have even been more difficult. Then add to it the fact you are the queen and are expected to produce an heir to the throne. Mikhal paid greatly for not having a right heart before the L-rd.
