There are 5 principal offerings: Sin, Trespass, Burnt, Grain, and Peace.
Other offerings are first fruits, wave, heave, vow, voluntary (freewill), and drink.
For now we will concentrate on the 5 principal offerings.
The offerings can be broken into 2 categories: sweet and non-sweet.
The Sin and the Trespass offerings are non-sweet offerings.
The Burnt, Grain, and Peace offerings are sweet (or pleasant odor) offerings.
The sweet offerings did not smell any better than the non-sweet offerings. They are classified differently because of what they were used for. G-d is not pleased with sin so the Sin and Trespass offerings would NOT be a pleasing smell to Him. The Burnt, Grain, and Peace offerings represent absolute perfection and obedience to Yeshua and are therefore pleasing to Him and are called sweet.
There are those that use the following verse from the Tanakh to say that G-d does not want offerings.
Isaiah 1:11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the L-RD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
This verse is taken out of context and twisted. Careful reading of Isaiah tells us that the reason that G-d did not want the sacrifices is because the hearts of the Israelites were not right with G-d. Some were compared spiritually to Sodom and Gomorrah. Some were unrepentant.
Isaiah 29:13 "Wherefore the L-rd said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honor me, but have removed their heart far from me"
1 Sam 16:7 for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the L-RD looketh on the heart.
To those around us we may appear as if we are living for HaShem but it is our hearts that the L-rd looks at not our outward appearance. Is your heart right with Yeshua?
