This is the 8th and final vision and it completes a cycle. It connects with the first vision.
It symbolizes G-dís angelic agents swiftly carrying out His judgment on the nations just prior to the establishment of the Messianic kingdom.
The fact that it connects with the first vision is interesting when we look at the next letter, "Vav".
To quote Rabbi Munk again,
"The letter "Vav" which is a prefix of conjunction;it unites manifold, even opposing concepts. It is also a link connecting heaven and earth. It's form is that of a hook as indeed its name [vav] means 'hook.' The vav links words and hrases to form sentences;it joins sentences into paragraphs and chapters;it connects one chapter to another; and even unites books. It may also be translated in the English word,'and.'(The Myatery of the Menorah..and the Hebrew Alphabet, J.R Chruch and Gary Stearman,Prophecy Publications, Co. 1993 pg.186.)
In this case it also seems to provide a transition connection into the Millennial reign of Yeshua on earth.
Vav denotes physical completion, redemption, and transformation.
Zechariah 6:1 And I turned, and lifted up my eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
Zechariah lifted up his eyes this indicates he is awake.
Bronze (Brass) is related to G-dís judgment. The 2 mountains may be Mt. Zion and the Mt. of Olives where the L-rd will return to judge. (Joel 3:2,12,14; Zech 14:4) The valley between the two is the Kidron valley.
Zechariah 6:2 In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses; This is similar to: Revelation 6:1-8 where we see the 4 horses riding out in judgment.
The addition of the black horses from the first vision may represent famine and death (starvation) as the black horse of Revelation 6 does.
Red symbolizes war.
Zechariah 6:3 with the third chariot white horses, and with the fourth chariot strong dappled horses.
The white horses may symbolize the false peace brought by the anti-messiah.
The dappled (spotted) horses replace the bay (speckled) horses of chapter 1. The dappled horses are similar to the pale horse of Revelation 6, symbolizing death.
Zechariah 6:4 Then I answered and said to the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord?
my lord - like ďsirĒ directed at the angel.
Zechariah 6:5 And the angel answered and said to me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the L-rd of all the earth.
ďThe 4 spirits of the heavensĒ represent divine angelic agents sent out to execute judgment on the earth.
Zechariah 6:6 The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the dappled go forth toward the south country.
Only north and south are mentioned. West is the Mediterranean Sea. East is the desert of Jordan. Travel to and from Israel followed the Fertile Crescent, which runs north to Syria and Babylon and south towards Egypt. Invading armies and the trade routes followed the Fertile Crescent.
Zechariah 6:7 And the strong ones went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.
The strong ones - the strong horses
They patrol the earth as the horses in the first vision, bring judgment.
Zechariah 6:8 Then he cried out to me, and spoke to me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.
Have quieted- gives rest to
The North Country - this is possibly a reference to the battle of Gog and Magog prophesied in Ezekiel 38 and 39.
As a result of G-dís judgment of His enemies, His wrath can rest. G-d has been avenged by this action, particularly in regard to the power from the North being judged. Until this final judgment is complete the Messianic kingdom canít be established with Messiah on His throne.
Vav is the sixth letter and denotes physical completion, redemption , and transformation. It also looks similar to a hook for it links or unites sentences, paragraphs and chapters or even books. In this case it seems to provide a transition connection into the Millennial reign of Yeshua on earth.
